I feel that Mia's story would have been better if the child would have been spared due to her being a mom and she realized how far she had fallen down that path of trying to cover her tracks. I felt that her killing the child was the ultimate disconnect from the character since her being a mom was a driving factor for not wanting the murder(s) to become public.

Just my two cents. I enjoyed the episode but I get why people overall didn't like the story.

Again I have to disagree. I feel like her stopping there would kind of just feel... weird. It stops her descent into being a crazy person, and therefore stops it from being as interesting. Like if she was becoming this murderous psycho bent on doing whatever she had to to protect her way of life, her just drawing a line there would have come off as cheap or virtue signaling or whatever. It would have made the ending weaker overall and the catharsis and ultimate irony of how she was brought down would be way less interesting.

I thought the downward spiral was fascinating and gradual enough that it felt believable. The episode isn't saying she was a saint beforehand and suddenly turned into Hitler. But it does just get crazier and crazier and she's put into these situations, and something within her stops her from stopping like most people would. And it's not like she set out to murder the child, it's just that (as far as Mia knew) it saw her, and that was that. There was only one way out. Of course the irony being the child was blind, but she wasn't aware of that).

If anything I think it's the opposite. A movie reviewer whose name I can't remember right now coined the term 'apology press'. Everyone is so goody goody and generous to movies, particularly franchise ones, so they keep getting mediocre free crap or invites to special premiere events and so on.
