Particles are the tools of the devil.

It doesn't help that a lot of Native Japanese speaking leave out particles here and there.

Your style gives me some lite-Tim Burton vibes. And I mean that in the best way.

I'm about to start a new one too. I got 2 weeks to work on it.

This is one I started a while back but I don't think I have the motivation to finish it.

Whenever you do, post it here! Is it via a drawing tablet?

So the first part of the presentation did pretty well. The class was invested and everyone liked it, pretty happy about it even though some of the Japanese came out weird.

Thank you! Like Wii_Shaker said, yours looks great too. I wanted to agree with the Agatha vibe but I couldnt remember her name.

I got a lot of homework. Need to make a presentation in Keigo about someone who I respect. I'm planning on doing it about Soken Masayoshi, the composer of FFXIV. I've been a huge fan of his and ever since his whole fight with cancer, he gained even more of my respect. Heres a video of his story if you guys are interested:

Here's a useful guide for setting up visual novels to be a Japanese learning tool. It found it when I found the same guy's Anki setup guide earlier.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAPr5S6h6yE

Very useful way to improve reading skill and vocabulary. I can't vouch for that Island game he recommends but I read Himawari by the same writer and it was excellent.

Reading manga is also good. A lot of people start with Yotsuba& and that is indeed the first thing I ever attempted to read in Japanese.

Thanks, I'll watch this.

The more kanji you learn the easier it gets to learn even more kanji. If you can grind your way past the first 500 or so everything should suddenly get a lot easier. Of course, then you get to the part where you're learning new kanji that look almost exactly the same as old kanji you've learned and you get to enjoy the fun of constantly mixing them up, but in general the more you know the easier it gets to learn even more. Like a snowball rolling down a hill.

Yeah I've started to push through some already thanks!

Also I've been reading the old cinderella and three little pigs children books. My girlfriend pointed out that the Japanese used in those books aren't actually good for normal conversations because of the way they're written.

I've decided to stop them and start reading some Manga I bought a while ago that has Furigana. Hopefully that'll be better for my studies.

Japanese Subnautica sure has a lot of hard words. And all the kanji use a Chinese font.

I figured out a way to make it worth playing in Japanese. Install the PDA Pause mod. Then you can actually read stuff without dying of thirst or drowning.

You are way above me. I'm still reading kids books from time to time to get used to some kanji.

I decided to try a little harder at really learning, and not just trying to get better without methodology. One of the first steps is some upside down image copying, because its easier to disassociate from what you think the image should look like (or something like that). Its not perfect, but its always better than you think itll be when youre doing it. It also forces me to take it slow, which I often have trouble doing. I have another one (besides the starter one), but Im a bit iffy on posting it. I might do a few more of these types of things while waiting for drawing materials to come in.

PerseusRad posted...

Sorry to post twice in a row. I would say my previous one was a success in upside down copying, or close enough, but this one was relatively a failure. Its true in this instance I wasnt copying a line drawing, but I dont think that matters too much. I started from the legs, and I think problems really began at the arms. You can tell the left shoulder (my left) might be a bit too far away. I guess this is where disassociation (or lack of) of the mind and previous knowledge comes into play.

The head might actually be the worst bit, because I leaned into the fact I had made a mistake with the arm. The right hand is weird in part because of the messed up arms. Honestly, the legs look short too, but the character is short and the shot is actually at a bit of an angle. So perhaps my mistakes were really just from a lack of carefulness, and were ever present. Gives me something to think about while I wait for my new stuff.

Damn dude you're drawings are good! Probably better than mine too. Theres something about the style that draws me in. Good work.

Yeah that's pretty much it. Depending on how I'm coloring and the figure I might start with the shadows first.

For that one specifically I imagined a candle just out of frame in front of her on the right side.

Interesting, thanks thats what I always thought, but I usually mess up the technique and it looks unnatural. I'll go back to it later.
