Wrote down a few sentences to remember structure. Its actually pretty easy just finding out how to say things from my head than writing it constantly.

Going to watch another show and pay extra attention to the sentence structures from now on. Maybe even pause and rewind if needed.

Getting used to these mock tests. Im getting the idea that if I went into an N4/N3 exam, I'd have to get lucky if I want to pass. Some of these tests are easy while others are pretty damn hard.

Same here, I got an outline of what I want to draw. Maybe I should just start drawing anything and see if my brain makes something of it.

Okay found a few mocks tests to do. I did one on N4 and I did pretty decent. I know my weaknesses now are Kanji (Obviously) and my ability to create sentences using new structures has declined unfortunately.

I became too comfortable with the knowledge I already have which did not help at all. I need to get out of that mentality.

I took a look at my past drawings. Actually bought a folder and put them in there as a portfolio. Realized I slowly edged away from anime style drawings and tried to mimic real life proportions more and more.

Yeah generally you outline the head, draw your brow line and where you want the angle to be. As time goes on, you need to do those marks less. I still do it every time.

Yeah. Half the face turned out misaligned.

Yeah your strokes seem much more confidentno shaky lines, no visible sketch lineslike you said, noticeable improvement. Good job.

...and what do you thinkshould I trace with ink, or leave it pencil only? I like the pencil shading, but ink makes it so much more pronounced and makes it pop. I could also use a mixture, as in; do the lines in ink, but also shade with the pencil...

Decisions, decisions... Im in PHX right now anyways, and left my art supplies at home, so itll be another day or two before I can get back to it.

I'd like to see more Ink art personally. Only because I havent done much of that myself! Maybe I should give it a go soon.

Just gonna doodle and draw every night and post it in this topic. I heard by drawing constantly you improve, so I will start drawing and hopefully keep track of any progress I make. By making this topic I hope to keep myself motivated to do this. Anyways heres a first picture I drew a while ago. Keep in mind this was using a reference so my future pictures might not resemble this. Or they will, I dont know how progress is measured.

Small adjustments. Might just leave it like this for now!

Just some random practice on eyes, nose and mouth. Wanted to focus more on details.

Just wanted to compare my drawing from the beginning of the topic to my last two drawings now even though they're slightly different styles.

Theres been a notable difference I see. My strokes have become much sharper?

Here's the other. It's a model of the pirate queen I drew a few weeks ago.

The first native material I ever tried reading were the manga I listed in my previous post, pretty much in that order. After that, I moved on to visual novels. I haven't actually read a straight novel in Japanese, only VNs (which are pretty much novels with music and artwork I guess).

The first VN I ever read was called Fureraba, I think it's since been translated to English, but wasn't back when I read it in JP. It was definitely a jump up in difficulty from the manga I had read up to that point (most VNs are due to having narration etc) but I was able to get through it without all that much difficulty.

If you need VN recommendations I can definitely suggest some, unfortunately won't be much help for traditional novels, though I do plan on reading some someday. The "pick which girl you would like to date" type of VNs (Fureraba is very much one of those) can get kinda boring but they are easy to start out with.

Could you tell me some? I don't mind the genre as long as I can learn from it. Thanks so much.

My coloring/shading isn't great, I'm not really good at that sort of thing, but I've tried to add it to some more pieces, cause people generally like color more that B/W. It's definitely missing from the hair, and probably other places, such as the armpit. I also sill have trouble with proportions and the like, it might be alright as it, but I'm sure there's places to improve. Perspective might be off, I feel like the shoulder on the left doesn't line up perfectly, among other things. The linework is evidently not clean if someone looks at it.

That is so cute! Reminds of my Sylvaria from Valkyria Chronicles.

Geez, what is up with Japan and their obssession with sad/tragic movies? Half these movies break my heart and I hate that feeling.

Not my best but I had to sketch these 2 guys out before D&D tomorrow. Left is a demon that's going to offer a contract to a player, right is the true Pirate King after the players help him regain his memories. I had to get these both out in 30 mins so be gentle.

I love these! They look like they're full of life.
