In my case, french music/soundtracks, and action figures(I'm basically the guy who's getting everything he has ever wanted as a kid, but cannot get) Marvel, GI Joes, Transformers, TMNT, etc.

He inherited vitiligo from his father's side. He had lupus and the treatments for that along with stress caused his vitiligo to get worse. He only depigmentized his skin when using make up to cover up the patches got too tiresome. I'm a huge MJ fan, but that last statement is pure bs. It may started off that way, but no. Dude wanted to be a white woman. And that probably was fucking him up mentally as well, because he could never come out due to his religion, disappointing his mom, fans, and the world wasn't as accepting as it is now.
