That's the point, though. They don't hammer it home until the end, but everything Sam has been doing has done more harm than good, and yeah, a lot of it has been very hypocritical. They're all trying to find their own way to adapt as a minority in the world and country we're living in. Along with struggling with her biracial identity and "white side" she instead chooses to rail against whites and vehemently fight for the cause and get people to be "woke" (*vomit*), barely letting herself be an actual person in the process. People like Coco want to blend in and not stir up s***. Final episode is Sam starting to get a clue.

Yeah, I got to the end, and the closest they come to Sam maybe realizing what she was doing was wrong was when the white low-key racist strawman tells her that nothing she did made anything better. I don't really see that as her getting a wakeup call about not being so militant. And if it was, then the second season is gonna have no conflict.

Also, the AP kids, who were protesting guns on campus over a situation where nobody died, had a problem with there being another protest regarding an actual death. And that shit is passed off like their message was being drowned out by less important causes.

Yeah sorry that your buddy was unharmed after he said "fuck you pig" before a cop pulled a gun on him. Meanwhile, a kid actually dies due to irresponsible underage drinking, but lol that needs to take a sideline the the REAL issue, damnit!

I know this show tries to pretend it's even-handed by poking fun at the low-hanging fruit on the left, but it's clear they'll never address how the death-by-cop rates for black men correlates almost precisely with the black crime rate and unjustified shootings are extremely rare. So not only is it disingenuous to present every interaction with an officer to involve getting a gun pulled on them for a stupid reason, it also wasn't even ballsy enough to kill the militant black guy. But the writers were probably aware that the police brutality angle that didn't actually involve brutality wasn't solid enough for their ending, so they had to throw in a racist conspiracy about the family that lines the pockets of the school.

The show is really well-written, which is why i binged it over 2 days but the morals it tries to convey are garbage.

But good news! I found a character who I didn't want to see die in a house fire! Lionel is my fave.

As I've been pro-LGBT for a number of years, rather vocally (not just when it's convenient to bash Muslims, like *ahem* some people) I think my stance on LGBT folks is quite clear to anyone with half a brain or who knows me even in passing on this forum.

Translation: You care about LGBT people exactly to the extent that you don't have to step on the toes of any other group you think is marginalized.

Meanwhile, I'll continue affirming that murdering LGBT people is a way bigger priority than churches being able to vocally support politicians, unlike you.

consider this “close call” a white friend and I had with the police as truant high-schoolers.

^ Couldn't be that the police officer was just not a racist. And it also couldn't be that her brothers were stopped for a reason and she's using them as justification for this article.

I recently wrote about recognizing our privilege as members of marginalized communities. I spoke about how, although I belong to an oppressed racial group as a Black person, I often benefit from my light skin in many spaces.

Clearly, being born with lighter skin was not something that I chose (just as being born white was not something those benefiting from white privilege chose), but I must recognize how I am privileged within my own community of folks.

For other light-skinned folks – this shit is messy, and I’m asking you to hold some really complicated (and sometimes contradictory) concepts!

It is true that “team light skin” and “team dark skin” is bullshit. It is true that it can really hurt to have the core our identity questioned by our own people. It is true that we are also impacted by the effects of racism and other forms of oppression.

And it is also true that we are given unfair privilege in all Black and all people or color spaces, and in greater US society, and we need to be aware of that.

Yup, you heard it here from Everydayfeminism, folks. Check your privilege, light-skinned minorities.
