Because FB is an entirely reasonable and truthful source. Not at all prone to misinformation and mass hysteria.

Also hearing stuff from my coworkers, we all just got out of work about an hours ago, talking about heavy police in their areas and late night stores/ gas stations that are usual open being closed down

6:15 AM PT -- 8/5 -- Data, shmata ... Neil says he straight-up got it wrong for his cold-hearted tweet from over the weekend. He said Monday, "My intent was to offer objectively true information that might help shape our conversations and reactions to preventable ways we die."

He goes on to say, "Where I miscalculated was that I genuinely believed the Tweet would be helpful to anyone trying to save lives in America. What I learned from the range of reactions is that for many people, some information -- my Tweet in particular -- can be true but unhelpful, especially at a time when many people are either still in shock or trying to heal -- or both.

"So if you are one of those people, I apologize for not knowing in advance what effect my Tweet could have on you ... I got this one wrong."

1:52 PM PT -- Smash Mouth had an apt response to Neil's tweet, which many people appear to agree with. On Twitter, the band wrote "F*** OFF!!!! There's your data!!!!"

If you're calling it a ritual and they were so quick to blow it off it means they don't see it like that. It's just a movie to them, and you're trying to apply a special meaning to it that they don't see.

Its unfortunate that they dont see it I guess, especially after hyping each other up about it for the past couple months

Oh brother. They didnt do this maliciously. You even admitted they invited you but you declined because you wanted to relax.

Yeah like a lot of people do on Sundays before the work week starts. Not saying it was malicious but they could have to taken into account of the plans that were made

Yeah, kind of. It sounds like you are all big fans of his and his films, if I was in a similar group, and we were all like "Okay, we are going this weekend!" and them someone just doesn't feel like it, i'm not sure i'm waiting another week, risking spoilers and whatnot just because.

If you had a more valid reason for cancelling, it might be different. Having a day to relax, really how much effort is going into going to watch a movie to begin with? How isn't going to see a movie relaxing?

Idk I don't really blame your friends on this one. You should have just gone as planned.

I would have definitely gone as planned on the day we planned it, which was this Friday August 2nd

Granted I was invited today but had some stuff going on and wanted to take the day to relax, but this was after we all agreed this past Friday to go see it the next Friday.

Maybe it's just me but with a movie like this that we all have anticipated for awhile, I'm the type of person that likes to see movies with other people that haven't seen it either, so we can all experience it as one. Also, it's kinda been ritual everytime a QT movie comes out that we all see it together.

They want to see it again and still go see it this Friday but I'm like nah, catch it with some other friends or wait for DVD I guess.

Am I being petty?

Topic30+ Dead in Suspected Arson at Kyoto Animation Studio

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/12-presumed-dead-after-suspected-arson-kyoto-animation-studio-n1031091

More than 30 people had died after a fire caused by suspected arson ripped through an animation production studio in Kyoto, Japan, early on Thursday.

At least 70 people were thought to have been inside the three-story Kyoto Animation building in Japan's ancient capital at the time the fire started, NHK reported.

A Japanese fire official said 33 people were confirmed dead and a further 36 injured, according to the Associated Press.

According to the AP, Kyoto police said the fire broke out after a man burst into the building screaming "You die!" before spreading unidentified liquid that then ignited.

Police said a 41-year-old man had been detained and was taken to hospital for treatment, according to NHK. They later said that the suspect is neither a current nor former employee of the animation studio, according to NBC News local partner NTV.

The animation studio's president Hideaki Hatta told reporters that he had received threatening emails recently, according to state broadcaster NHK. The emails addressed to the company's sales departments told them to die, Hatta said. The emails had no titles and the company consulted a lawyer each time, he added.

Kyoto Animation, better known as KyoAni, was founded in 1981 as an animation and comic book production studio, and is known for mega-hit stories featuring high school girls, including "Lucky Star," ''K-On!" and "Haruhi Suzumiya."

The death toll climbed immediately after the incident as firefighters entered the building and assessed the damage. Fire officials said 13 people were found and confirmed dead on the first and second floors of the building, the AP reported. More than 10 people were found unresponsive on the third floor and in the stairwell where they appeared to be trying to escape to the roof.

NBC News was not able to confirm these reports.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed that arson was suspected.

"The arson murder that took place in Kyoto today took away many many lives. The gruesomeness of it all Im at a loss for words," he said in a statement on Twitter. "I pray for those souls that perished. And for those who have suffered injuries, I extend my deepest sympathy and pray for the swiftest recovery."

Footage on national television showed gray smoke billowing from the charred building. Other footage showed windows blown out.

"There was an explosion, then I heard people shouting, some asking for help," a woman told TBS TV. "Black smoke was rising from windows on upper floors, then there was a man struggling to crawl out of the window."

Witnesses in the neighborhood said they heard bangs coming from the building, others said they saw people coming out blackened, bleeding, walking barefoot, Kyodo News reported.

Rescue officials set up an orange tent outside the studio building to provide first aid and sort out the injured.

A GoFundMe was established by U.S.-based firm Sentai Filmworks to support the victims of the incident, which raised over $400,000 in the first seven hours.

UPDATE (6 p.m.) Investigators want to find the person who drop-kicked a cat in this video.

It happened at an apartment complex on the south side of Lansing sometime in the last few days. Ingham County Animal Control got a shocking tip about it on Wednesday.
We received a pretty disturbing video, and we assigned an officer to investigate it, director Jodi LeBombard He did go out to identify the scene.

It wasnt long before officer Michael ONeil found the cat dead in a dumpster.
Its disgusting, and not tolerated in our community, LeBombard says, and we seek to find the individual that did the act and bring the cat some justice.

Tracking that person down, as well as whoever was behind the camera, may be tricky. ONeil says itll be harder to track down a suspect because there were no security cameras on the property.

That does make it a little bit tougher, not having the security cameras, ONeil says, but hopefully with the help from the community and people calling in their tips, we can get to the bottom of who was in the video, who recorded the video and all that information.

Ingham County Animal Control is offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to an identification or an arrest. Theyre hoping someone will come forward to help them solve the case.

###

Lansing (WLNS) Animal Control is looking for information about a man seen on video kicking a cat.

The tip included a video of what appears to be a man drop kicking a small cat in a parking lot. The cat was later found dead.

Ingham County Animal Control believes it happened at the LaRoy Froh Apartment Complex in the 2400 block of Reo Road in Lansing.

Officials believe the incident likely occurred on or about July 8-9th.

The cats body was found by an Animal Control Officer Wednesday night in a nearby dumpster.

Ingham County Animal Control Director, Jodi LeBombard says We will not tolerate this in our community. This was an absolute horrific act of animal cruelty. We are asking the public to please help us identify this individual so we can seek justice for this cat.

Ingham County Animal Control is offering a $500 dollar reward for any information leading to the identity of the individuals responsible in this case or any witnesses willing to come forward.

https://www.wlky.com/article/jim-beam-warehouse-filled-with-45k-barrels-of-bourbon-catches-fire/28275574

VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) Firefighters in Kentucky are trying to extinguish a burning Jim Beam warehouse filled with about 45,000 barrels of bourbon.

Woodford County Emergency Management Director Drew Chandler tells WKYT-TV that two barrel warehouses caught fire around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Crews were able to put one out, but the other kept burning for hours.

Chandler says it may have been caused by lightning.

A nearby road has been shut down as crews fight the blaze. WLKY was told the warehouse would likely be on fire for "quite some time," and Chandler estimates firefighters will be working at the scene late into Wednesday night.

According to Beam Suntory, which owns Jim Beam, said the whiskey lost was relatively young, so the fire will not impact the availability of Jim Beam for customers.

"We are thankful that no one was injured in this incident, and we are grateful to the courageous firefighters from multiple jurisdictions who brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading," an official Beam Suntory statement said.

https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/451002-9-11-first-responder-who-testified-alongside-jon-stewart-dies

Luis Alvarez, a former New York City detective and 9/11 first responder who pleaded with Congress to extend health benefits for those who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, died Saturday.

Alvarez, 53, died in a hospice in Rockville Centre, N.Y., according to a statement by Matthew McCauley, a retired NYPD officer who is Alvarez's lawyer and friend.

McCauley wrote on Facebook that his death resulted from complications of colorectal cancer, with which he had been diagnosed in 2016. Alvarez's cancer was linked to the three months he spent searching for survivors and for the remains of his fellow officers at ground zero.

"It is with peace and comfort, that the Alvarez family announce that Luis (Lou) Alvarez, our warrior, has gone home to our Good Lord in heaven today. Please remember his words, 'Please take care of yourselves and each other,'" McCauley wrote.

"We told him at the end that he had won this battle by the many lives he had touched by sharing his three year battle. He was at peace with that, surrounded by family."

Alvarez had undergone dozens of chemotherapy treatments while still remaining active in efforts to lobby Congress for funding for the Victim Compensation Fund. The fund provides compensation for medical care for first responders who contracted deadly illnesses related to their work following the September, 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"My legacy to them is dad did his best. Never quit, no matter how hard things got. Dad never quit," he told an NBC News affiliate in June as he entered hospice care for his disease.

I will not stand by and watch as my friends with cancer from 9/11 like me are valued less than anyone else because of when they get sick," he said You made me come here the day before my 69th round of chemo. Im going to make sure that you never forget to take care of the 9/11 responders.

Last week, Alvarez gave an impassioned plea calling for congressional action on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

We did the right thing when we went down there, Alvarez said, referring to when he and thousands of others responded to the devastation from the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. Now its the governments turn to do the right thing by us.

Alvarez appeared earlier this year alongside Jon Stewart, the former host of The Daily Show, as he excoriated lawmakers in emotional testimony for failing to attend a September 11th Victim Compensation Fund hearing.

I will not stand by and watch as my friends with cancer from 9/11 like me are valued less than anyone else because of when they get sick," Alvarez said before the House Judiciary Committee. "You made me come here the day before my 69th round of chemo. Im going to make sure that you never forget to take care of the 9/11 responders.

The refunding bill unanimously passed the House panel, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) has said the legislation will go to a floor vote in August.

Alvarez's death was noted on Twitter by prominent New Yorkers including the NYPD's chief of detectives, as well as Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.).

"NYPD Detective Lou Alvarez died at peace knowing his life made a difference to others and will save lives in the future. He was a great man. My prayers go to his family, the NYPD, and all who loved him," Schumer wrote.

"He exemplified the NYPD motto, Fidelis Ad Mortem or Faithful Unto Death. Detective Lou Alvarez has lost his battle with 9/11-related cancer. An inspiration, a warrior, a friendwe will carry his sword," added Chief Dermot Shea of the NYPD.
