I have a bunch of friends that got married. Nothing really changed from when they were single, to dating, to marriage in our friendships. And having kids never really affected anyone I knew. When my SO had kids, he still saw his friends a lot. Same with my mom. If her friends had kids, the kids would play together while the parents hung out and talked. And if they didn't, they'd still come over to catch up. And when my mom wanted to go out, I was either with my stepdad or grandma. When I got older, I'd watch my siblings. My mom has known a lot of her friends from before I was even born... I guess it's just something I never understood. Keeping friends while married and with kids doesn't really seem like something super difficult to me...it just happens tbh, when you go through these big lifestyle changes (getting serious with career, marriage, kids, etc) you tend to learn who your real friends are & what friendships have longevity in them, and aren't just a friendship of convenience (i.e. drinking buddies). your priorities start to shift as your life changes and often it doesn't line up with those of other people and your friendship begins to drift apart because it's like you guys aren't on the same wavelength anymore. it is a weird feeling. it happened a bit with me when i got married and now it is really happening to me as I am about to have my first kid. --- |
