Summer looks like it's going to be a good season for me. I'm actually really interested in Happy Sugar Life (AotY right there) but there's a bunch of other stuff that looks interesting too.

You gotta be careful when you talk about anime like this. There are those who ride really high horses on really high moral ground, and shall not be named, in this topic that would see you flayed for the high crime of watching something like Keijo.

Any respect I lose for watching Keijo is respect I didn't want to have!

Keijo is a treasure. I love how much they put into the concept and how serious they took it. And how over the top it was.

Exactly! They took a concept that was perfect for mindless fanservice and instead took it seriously, which actually produced some really creative, over-the-top fights.

With MAL down, I can't check my friend list to see who has the honor (and/or shame) of having watched Keijo!!!!!!!! but if anyone here has, I've finally joined you. I just binged it and, let me say, it's a good thing that the title of the anime has eight exclamation marks. That is an accurate measure of how hyped I was while watching it.

Okay seriously though, Keijo was pretty good. I went in expecting nothing more than lazy fanservice so it was a nice surprise to see so much creativity from the concept. The magic powers those girls infused into their bodies were all just so absurd, it was great. Like, obviously the story was fairly standard and the characters were ultimately nothing special, but I was enthralled the entire time by the spectacle alone!

I just finished Hanasaku Iroha (after going back to it since Granzon said the problems that originally made me drop it wouldn't linger for too long). I'm glad I finished it, too. A lot of parts still bothered me (Minko was always the absolute worst) but I'm enough of a fan for this type of story that it managed to pull me in regardless. Even though Ohana often got on my nerves by always charging forward despite never having a plan, it was still fun watching her find her place at that inn.

The length really depends on how quickly you read, too. I finished it in 21 hours (over the course of two days because, man, Fata Morgana hooked me good). I'm glad you're liking it so far!

I agree with most of your thoughts, especially about Amanchu (these last few episodes simply aren't Amanchu) and Last Period (it's so dumb but in the best way). I'm also glad someone feels mostly the same way about FranXX being bad as I do. Maybe I should watch KLK and see if I like it too.

I just finished watching Wandering Son. I was impressed at how it explored its subject matter with such finesse. Even beyond that, though, the characters and slice-of-life moments were all pretty good on their own too. I've since read more about what was in the manga and it would've been nice if this was a more complete adaptation (my imagination for a lot of stuff that wasn't covered makes it seem great) but I'm still glad I watched this.

I'll go ahead and say that I'm really not a fan of SAO Alternative right now, either. It started fine with a cute main character and decent-ish gun battles, but in my opinion it has fallen off a cliff these last few episodes. I'd rank it ahead of the SAO fairy arc but that's it. I hope it turns back around before the end.

Pito apparently being crazy has been explored so poorly. LLENN interacted with her a bunch and never came away with the opinion that she was a crazy monster person like all the shuddering dudes have. Every indication that she's crazy has come from long 'tell, don't show' info-dumps and that isn't good writing. This is also a terrible way to add tension in a story that really didn't need the threat of death. The first Squad Jam had tension even when there was no threat of death.

After slowly watching through it for almost a month, I've finally finished Aria. I was a bit underwhelmed with it during the first season but the second season was better and the third season had a bunch of great episodes. Those three special episodes were an excellent way to close out the series, too. Still, it never reached the heights for me that it obviously did for a few other people here. I still vastly prefer Amanchu, for example... well, the first season of Amanchu, at least. Aria was always beautiful and optimistic, and there's really nothing I can point to as a problem that held it back from becoming a true favorite. It just never fully clicked for me, I guess. Still, I'm glad I watched it!

I just finished watching Shirobako and it left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, it was exceedingly interesting to see more about what actually goes into the production of anime so I really enjoyed those aspects. Sadly, the actual plot and characters never really resonated with me so a lot of the drama and personal stories fell flat. Still, I'm glad that I watched it just for the perspective it gave me about anime.

Also, I wasn't a fan of a lot of things in the second half. About six seconds after that 'funny story' jerk was introduced I immediately guessed the entire plot and I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. Ah well.

I just finished watching both seasons of Snow White with the Red Hair. I hadn't intended to watch it this quickly but once I got started I wound up really liking it. Shirayuki was a great character and the whole thing just felt really enchanting.

I appreciated how Shirayuki always tried to rescue herself whenever she got into trouble. She was also strong when it came to her specialties (herbs and whatnot) without seeming totally perfect. I loved the romance too, they were always cute together and it was the perfect mix of having drama without becoming dominated by it. I feel like there were a lot of ways a story like this could've become too dark and edgy but it managed to remain fun throughout.
