If I recall, the VMU batteries didn't last that long, and it was a pain to change them every so often. I remember the chirp of a low VMU battery. But I also remember that it was the only console of its generation that was easy to connect to a VGA monitor. It looked great on a spare Trinitron that I had at the time.

Depends on how you use them.
If you're using it solely to save your games then it should last for a year. But if you use them to play the (mini) games then yes it won't last that long.
I like that you can exchange files directly to other VMUs.

The last time I "went under", I came to about an hour before I could move. Surgery was completed and I'd been stitched up but I couldn't move or talk. It was frightening.

The nurse came over to me (the guy with bugged eyes darting all over the recovery room) and explained it all.

It'd be nice to be able to start FFX at the beginning of Mi'ihen Highroad. I can't really say that for any other game in the series that I've played - they all let you jump right into the action. Some at a slower pace than others but all of them far ahead of FFX.

Yea but FFX had no new game+ tho.
But even a simple cutscene skip like they have on FFX-2 would help a lot.
