Comic book movies haven't had an antivilian since Watchemen.

Black Adam is definitely exciting. I like that DC has been willing to look more towards their C-list characters now (not that Black Adam himself is C-list, but rather some of the other characters in it)

Speaking of the meritocracy myth, the term was literally coined in cynical mockery.

It's funny how many concepts pro-capitalists truly believe in that originated as sarcastic critiques of the system. "Meritocracy" and "pulling one's self up by their bootstraps" come to mind.

it's like they recognized how grimdark their other movies were, so they tried to make it "fun", but forgot to write a compelling story or interesting characters along the way.

which is a shame, since Jason Momoa is pretty charismatic, and the dude who played Black Manta has been good in his other roles that I've seen.

I liked Shazam and The Suicide Squad, though, and the first Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey.

haven't seen WW'84 or Peacemaker yet.

Peacemaker might unironically be the best thing in the DCEU (well besides Shazam for me)

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is one of my favorite sitcoms, and this show has me hooked. I was one of the people that hated the idea of doing Fresh Prince of Bel-Air without actual Will Smith.

I'm always skeptical of remakes/revivals/reboots but this feels like one of the few that actually seems inspired and not just a shameless cash grab.

BTW, I can't get over the fact that Jabari Banks plays a young Will Smith better than Will's own son lmao

My only real problem with the series is that Ashley is barely in it. But I guess with her being so young she wouldn't really have a storyline that fits the tone of the rest of the show.

On the flip side, Hillary and Jazz are really likable in this. And the woman portraying Aunt Viv really nails it during key moments. They honestly did a damn good job casting for this show and I wouldn't be surprised if the new actors worked with the originals to help in their roles. Well, besides Carlton, who is a totally different take. And of course Uncle Phil.

What I like about toku is that they're pretty good about using secret identities as natural part of a story, rather than just a rule to maintain the status quo.

Most modern Ultraman series usually start with a "secret" identity that gets revealed naturally over the course of the story.

Then Sentai is like, 50/50 on whether they're a secret organization or if every child in Japan recognizes their civilian faces lol. (Timeranger is still my favorite in terms of how to handle an identity reveal lol)

Meanwhile in Revice, Ikki's just like "Lemme henshin in front of my entire family and this whole group of people at a public event" from the very first episode

That's because most Marvel heroes period don't have a secret identity.

The only two I can think of off the top of my head are Spider-Man and Daredevil
