Well, Wikipedia said she was created for the show... but since I barely watched any of the episodes and never read an actual X-Men comic, I have no personal frame of reference.

(No judgments on the show quality there; I was just a really big fan of Beast Wars and hearing the exact same voices coming from the X-Men characters felt strangely off-putting for some reason.)

Also, I'm surprised to learn X-23 was in Evolution. Somehow I always thought of her as a more modern character that wouldn't have been invented until after that show was cancelled, but apparently she debuted on it? Huh.

I actually wanted to nominate one of Doofenschmirtz's songs for this, but I had trouble finding any that I liked enough that I'd listen to them out of context and abandoned the idea fairly early on. I'm glad someone else picked up the slack and got him to make an appearance.

I was sure this had to be a typo or something, but watching the video it's clear that they are indeed saying saying "tinkle". I have to wonder what they were thinking there.

Well, some sources translate it as "Twinkle" which makes slightly more sense. One of the Wikis says it was just a mistake on Sanrio's part when it was first unveiled, but I can't really speculate on it.

I always just took it as a nonsense word in Japanese that unfortunately sounded wrong in other languages. Female characters would chant "Tinkle TInkle" when casting spell, while males had "Grilla Grilla" (IIRC). So... Twinkle would sound less stupid, but it's not like male magic had anything to do with grilling or gorillas, so "unfortunate sounding gibberish" still seems as probable as explanation to me as any other.

(Yes, magical incanations are gender specific in this universe, just try to ignore the stupidity involved in that.)

In fact, most of the sequence comes across like a commercial for some toy rather than an intro to a show.

I'm reasonably certain the JewelPet toys came out before any of the many anime series, so that's probably more accurate than you knew.

Anyway... I love it, but I can't say "most overwhelmingly cute intro in existence" seemed like your type of thing, so not terribly surprised.
