Yeah, there's a noticeable amount of anti-White sentiment in the US. It might not be the most pressing racial issue facing our country and I still enjoy the privilege of not really feeling threatened by it, but still, it's disturbing in its own small way.

Granted, it's ultimately the counter-swing of a big racist pendulum that's been pummeling the other side for hundreds of years. Gotta' keep the larger picture in mind, even though it doesn't excuse the smaller transgression.

I've never understood the point of cover letters. Aren't you basically just covering the same shit in your CV/Resume?

You shouldn't be. Honestly, I think they're a waste of time too, for everyone involved. But you should treat it like the essay section of a college application, just in case anyone reads it.

The point of a cover letter is A) to demonstrate basic proficiency in written communication; and B) to make the potential employer feel special, i.e. prove that the job means enough to you that you'll take the time to edit a paragraph here, a few words over there, etc.

The anti-vaxx movement is stupid and dangerous, but at the same time I've got a problem with jackbooted government thugs forcibly sticking needles into children's arms.

Solution: no access to social services unless you're vaccinated. No public school, no public parks, no public polling places. Make it so costly that no one can afford to make the wrong choice.

It's an Alexa global top-500 site (flawed measurement, but still) with mostly text-based assets and the number of salaried positions can be counted with one hand. Whether or not the decreased board activity is causing a noticeable dip in page views, I can't imagine that GameFAQs is anything less than a cash cow for CNET.

I dunno... I read a bunch of clickbait articles last week attempting to stir up hysteria about the US sending ships towards the Korean peninsula. In fact, this is completely routine and was scheduled months in advance, but most of the reports tried to bury those facts several paragraphs in, after a jump.

NK has been thumping its chest as usual of course, and they continue to inch closer to long-range missile capabilities... Other than that, has anything newsworthy actually happened?

The way that the Millennial population cohort is defined is pretty worthless. If you want to say anything meaningful about wide swaths of 17 to 36 year-olds, you have to divide them in half based on the technology they/we grew up with. Either pre/post internet, or pre/post Facebook.

Aces high or low would change the probability of drawing a straight or straight flush.

If it was something like.

Drawing a card below a jack and higher than a 3.

You'd just add an extra condition?

The probability of drawing a card between a Jack and a 3 doesn't change, because the same 52 cards are still in the deck and an Ace, high or low, can't take a value within that range.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

i'm inclined to think that the 'militia' we have today is effectively useless to our security, and technology has outpaced this aspect of the constitution.

I agree with this. But I'll also note that a preambulatory clause is only given as a primary reason for the rights enumerated after it-- not a necessary condition. The primary justification may be outdated but the right is still inviolable, in essence.

Darkman124 posted...
it also says the militia should be 'well regulated', which is the basis of much gun control law.

A faulty basis which misses the meaning of "well regulated," never mind that the preambulatory clause is non-binding anyway.

Darkman124 posted...
firearms can do some good in home defense.

I agree with this too. The language in 2A is a sloppy product of compromise. The right to bear arms is derivative of the right to self defense, which is what 2A really ought to have honed in on.

No, unless it is limited to muskets like it was intended.

Putting aside the litany of revolutionary era assault weapons I could list off... the larger problem is that this option represents a fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution. If you believe that 2A only applies to muskets then you may as well also argue that 1A doesn't protect speech on the internet.
