I was just out of college, and a random contractor company found my resume on Monster and called me, I didn't even apply for this job. We did the normal 10 minutes of tell me about yourself and go over the resume, and they tell me about the job. That was on Thursday. On Monday I got a phone call saying I got the job. No interview besides that 10 minutes, just a conversation and a resume is all they wanted.weirdly I had a very similar experience on my first job out of university. i applied through the website with a CV and cover letter. then the hiring manager randomly called me and we spoke for 30 minutes. i was walking home by a busy road and it was super windy. but it was just to talk things through informally. i ended up getting the job though which was great. Cleo_II posted... Past behavior is indicative of future behavior. Lots of people bullshit on their resume. The key is though is to ask thoughtful questions and then probe further into a candidates response to see if they are just super prepared to bullshit you. Ive been in interviews before where the resume looks solid and they have perfect answers ready for your questions, but when you ask them to dig deeper you find out they dont know jack shit.i get your point but i get intimated by those type of questions and there's other ways to find out if i'm a bullshitter or not. i don't bullshit in job applications because i feel bad by lying and it's not productive for me when i could get called out for it. sets the wrong tone for someone who would be my manager --- |

I won't waste time having you come in if your resume doesn't make me want to hire you. Youre there to see if you can act like a normal person for 15 minutes while we figure out if the job is a good fit on your end and for you to take a short skills assessment test. I'm the one that knows the job. I should be the one making the pitch for why you're a good fit. Any questions i ask should be in pursuit of that. If i can't do that then why am I even conducting this interview?one time i was (mostly/unofficially) the hiring manager for an entry level assistant to me and i completely agree with what you say. there were even a few applications from overqualified people. and most people with common sense will be able to do the job with some basic training anyway. from a CV and cover letter, you can tell who's competent and who you would want to hire. an interview should be informal with people talking through their experiences and seeing if the job is a good fit for them, if they would fit in with the team, talking through day to day work and maybe performing some tasks and talking through how you would go about it i get and agree with the point of competency based questions but you could lie through it and 70% of the time aren't relevant to your day to day job or real life situations --- |
