Unless he's physically on Demonreach, he's a really powerful thug.

The books haven't progressed enough to show his full potential. The whole "starborn" thing with him and Elaine.

Mhmm, I'm really curious to see where things go. My brother in law and I agree, too, that what we know of the council is the tip of the iceberg, because nobody wants anyone to know how strong they are.

There are no aura skills like that, though. All the offensive auras still require you to attack.

Not necessarily. If you were CI and an armor/ev 5l dropped you'd most likely stay with the 4l CI.

so if you use one specific build, which actually is an end game build because your entire gear revolves around it, then you're wrong toast!!!!

like, really? you think that's a relevant or meaningful point?

That isn't one specific build. That's a concept that applies across the board for gearing. Evasion and you get a 5l ES item? You stay. Armor and you get 5l Evasion? You stay. Get an item with worse health or resistances but more links? You stay. Armor stats are FAR more important than links.

Yup. Most builds treat 6l as "strictly optional", because you usually don't need it until VERY lategame content.

if you're defining picking + 5 int over + 50 hp, sure, there's hundreds. Or, theres about 20. like every other ARPG

No, I'm defining it based on class and ascension selection, defensive options, and offensive skill build. There are tons of options for any of those three overall points, and they have a huge effect on how you build and play your character.

I Like Toast posted...
because level 35 is meaningfully different when the original claim is that they only matter "super late game" which is utter horseshit. They matter the second you get your first one.Because every item after is inferior no matter if it has better stats or not.

And unless you're paying out the ass or are extremely lucky, you aren't getting your first 5 link until around 50, and even if you do get one notably before then, the mana costs for using it are usually too prohibative. Hell, there are plenty of builds where you aren't even suggested to use your primary skill until level 50, or even 60 or later. Try using a righteous fire build before that and see how it goes for you.

Balrog0 posted...

can someone seriously explain to me Toast's point? i'm sick of fighting through his posting style to try to guess it.

someone said that this type of gear is very late game gear

toast is saying its not because you start getting it at lvl 30

other people are saying thats not a fair characterization since its rare at that level

is it really that hard to follow?

To clarify, it isn't just rare at that level, it's pretty useless. The way skills in PoE work is you have slots in your items, you can put a skill gem in there, and support gems to connect to it and change effects. Each support gem makes it stronger, but adds a percentage to the mana cost. So when you add a fifth gem into it, like he's suggesting, almost all builds will be unable to sustainably cast it because it drains more mana than your build generates, and most builds don't have a large mana pool because they have other gems taking a percentage off it - usually by level 40 or so, a build will have 25% or less of its total mana available. If you add a sixth gem at that point, which you can only do with a rare unique item that sells for an arm and a leg, you'll be lucky to be able to cast it more than a couple times without freeing up more mana.

You aren't getting 5 or 6 sockets at 30 unless you're EXTREMELY lucky. More like 50+ for 5, 70+ for 6. Hell, at 30 if you got a 6 socket, you probably wouldn't even be able to use it because the mana cost would be insane.

I Like Toast posted...
The illusion of choice in poe is precisely that. You can choose to be less effective in both games. Or your going to follow the logical path of your build.

"There is a more effective build" doesn't make your build less viable. There are hundreds of viable builds in any given League when you consider skill choice, starting class and ascendancy, and defensive options.

Items, gold, and last hitting is what contributes to a toxic community. The only toxicity I ever witnessed on HotS is when people make bad decisions in a teamfight that costs the game, but even that is still prevelant in LoL.

Lack of team play, refusing to pick for the team, bad positioning, bad decision making, feeding, etc.

Meanwhile, gold, experience, and items add a lot to League and Dota, giving far more depth to the gameplay.
