I will say this about Mickey: Probably the best classic cartoons he's in are ones based on fairy tales. He's great as a stand in there for stuff like Jack and the Beanstalk, or The Brave Little Tailor.

that's true but i think him being such a blank slate of a character is also a detriment...because when you really think about it

Mickey has nothing to make himself a better character than donald or goofy

donald has his own world of characters and goofy not only had his own series of shorts but an animated series and two movies(the second was direct to video but still)focused on him and his son

why does donald duck have his own world of characters in comics but mickey mouse really doesn't?

I've seen a small bit of the italian mickey mouse comics but they don't seem to compare to duck world

sometimes i wonder why the disney comics aren't more popular...especially the duck comics

its not like people don't like these characters

people really like donald duck but even many comic book readers seem to be unaware those books exist

So does most of the rest of the world.

The Duck universe is pretty much the most popular Disney IP outside of the US. Donald and all his various spin-offs and supporting characters are generally seen as being way more important and interesting than Mickey in most places.

Which might be why Mickey feels bland. He's mostly been relegated to being the mascot (which means they need to keep him pure) and being the star of most of the pre-K toddler-focused cartoons in the US. He's basically the starter Pokemon you get before you move on to the more interesting characters.

@ParanoidObsessive I Know Don Rosa(Notable uncle scrooge artist)hates how popular the duck comics are outside the united states because that means inside the states he's practically a nobody even at conventions but in europe he's like a celebrity

he attributes that to american's not having good tastes and only wanting brainless superhero filth plus the american comic book industry turning to crap after the 70's

eh but i don't know about that

Older cartoons he was definitely kind of neurotic. The newer cartoons he definitely has that kind of energy.

to me Mickey is a character that by himself really sucks....he needs somebody to bounce off of

his blank personality makes it difficult for him to carry a story without help from any other characters

We All Know goofy and donald but mickey's personality is....vague

he's a squeaky clean good guy and that's about it

old school mickey could be snarky and mischievous, not on the same level as bugs bunny but it was still there. they toned it down over the years though, seems like these days he's mostly relegated to being a fairly flat character mostly for young children. sort of what you said, but also depends on what they're using him in.

@Nade_Duck https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/5/0/AAM3HCAAEW8W.jpg

i know that mickey mouse gets into quite the crazy adventures in Italian comics

i suppose i really should have worded myself better because in the discussion

i said "why does disney rarely do much with the classic characters?" and i was told

"Well actually they do a crap load of stuff with mickey mouse"

which while yeah they do....to me a lot of it is just stuff that really isn't all that notable

Depends on what media he's in

they didn't specify they just told me that Disney puts much more work into mickey mouse than anything else they are working on...excluding star wars/marvel

i had been led to assume that the disney comics(especially the translated disney masters)would be unmatched in quality when it comes to quality content for so many characters

i always had this impression of mickey mouse being the most boring of the classic disney characters with him being relegated to less of an actual character and more of a boring safe marketable mascot over the years

however recently I was informed that i was incorrect in my assumption and that Mickey Mouse has more care and attention put into him than anything Not related to Star Wars/Marvel In The Disney Line

but is that really the case?....have i truly been blind to all the quality mickey mouse content coming out over the last couple years

I feel like this is either exaggerated or uses inflated values.

Granted, a lot of companies have periodic problems unloading inventory so it's not really unique. Funko just apparently didn't plan well enough and was holding onto inventory for too long. During the 2022 Christmas season, Five Below had a reasonably large Pop! offering... but for $6, which was lame.

This so hard. They haven't really ever had a thriving secondary market, certainly not like Beanie Babies.

While I know that some collectors have tried (and often failed) to sell their collections afterward, they weren't buying them for the secondary market, they just bored of them, which is like anything else.

That's unsurprising. The franchises that get adapted can make or break a collectibles line and, while Funko has had success diversifying, the fact that they've gone all-in on some franchises must be hurting them.

tbh, that's always been the appeal of Funko lines -- they tend to offer collectibles from underrepresented franchises or characters from those franchises. In the case of older films, it's sometimes been the ONLY figure that certain characters have had.

...that said, most of the Pop!s, Mystery Minis, etc, I've bought have related to moderately popular franchises, many of which have collectibles. However, in some cases, the Funko version is either cheaper (Chernabog, for example) or covers a character better (ie, some of the Spidey Far from Home normal figures were garbage; Molten Man, for example, might've only appeared in a budget line and the quality was lousy, whereas Funko did great versions of Molten Man)

And, honestly, for a lot of stuff, there's a long gap between merch.

i don't think this my hero academia character has anything else except a funko pop

i mean they even include some students from Class 1-B and i know those characters aren't getting premium figures or Mcfarlane action figures

I would say their popcorn chicken. I would miss their chocolate chip cookie, green beans, and strawberry lemonade, too.

Crazy how some places have been doing stuff like that these days like Steak n Shake, BK, and McDonalds the last 2-3 years.

speaking of mcdonalds...they got rid of Yogurt during the height of the pandemic and then never brought it back

it seemed like a decision made due to the pandemic however they seemed to have no interest in returning Yogurt to the menu for whatever reason

Jokes aside I feel batman would benefit better from a TV show than a movie. Movies don't have as much time to delve into his detective skills. A TV show would be able to dedicate a fair bit of time to that and still have the fights.

Like the typical formular for like live action TV shows would work perfect for him. Villain of the week who is easy to track down and beat but have a mysterious or hard to track villain for the series that takes like half thebseason atleast for batman to even figure out who or where they are. Then the other half figuring out how to beat/catch them

unfortunately WB has decided that batman should be reserved for movies and when we have live action batman tv shows

it's never about batman....

there's been birds of prey gotham pennyworth and batwoman

Young Bruce Wayne was in gotham but by the time he became batman the series was over
