Wow so much disingenuousness and straight-up gaslighting from Inviso in the previous topic that I can't even begin to tackle it.

This is the only issue I'll touch, since it's a pretty silly direct personal attack on me:

for the first time in their privileged lives, they're experiencing (a VERY minimal) level of hardship

I grew up in poverty, earned a scholarship to an Ivy League university (first in my family to go to college, dad dropped out of high school when he was 15), then worked my way into a very good living that allows me to now support my parents when they need it.

So perhaps that is why I take issue when the government and ivory tower technocrats point their fingers at 20 million people, declare them "unessential" and forbid them from making a living.

But you do you, man. If it makes you feel better to imagine me in a different way, go right ahead.

Regardless of how we end up doing, we could have had a lot fewer deaths if Trump hadnt wasted two months without prioritizing the development and wide deployment of a reliable test and increased production of PPE. His actions now can certainly influence downward how big of a failure his response has been, but its impossible to make up for that mistake and all of the death it has caused.

Further evidence that COVID has passed its peak in NY now at Cuomo's press conference. The doomsday models have likewise been shedding the death prediction rapidly day-after-day.

A few weeks ago it was 2 million deaths in the US. Then it was 200,000+ even with isolation measures.

Then it was 100,000+ because we self-isolated.

Then it was 80,000.

Now it continues to drop.

Remember that I predicted 30,000 from the beginning (I was also the only one here who believed that we would not be at war with Iran this year). We'll see where it ends up.

I don't think bringing back the economy without containing the virus is even a choice we have, even without debating such a hypothetical tradeoff. Unless people feel safe they're not going to want to go out to restaurants, go shopping, etc.

I live in New York and went to prospect park on Saturday. It was absolutely packed. 75% of people weren't wearing masks.

Even in the heart of the outbreak, people aren't living scared. I assume it's a very strange concept to many here.

XP is the most compatible OS yea. Do note however that GOG games don't typically work on old machines. They're selling old games wrapped in a modern shell and that shell in my experience that shell is too much for an old PC

This tower would be exclusively for the games I physically own.

I wonder if anyone has thought of the optimal build for something like this?

I was actually beginning to lean this way. I assume Windows XP would run pretty much anything that a modern gaming PC would not?

Now it's just a matter of finding the best specs to run those old games as smoothly as possible.

"New cases" means that these people were just diagnosed with COVID-19; meaning that in a week or two, they could end up hospitalized. This isn't hard. If the number of new cases keeps increases each day, then the number of hospitalizations are also likely to increase as well. There's a chance it won't, but the chance it will is still greater.

If this were true then we wouldn't have seen a decline in hospital admissions yet...

I will be, when it's all said and done. It just isn't going to be any time this month like you seem to be thinking for some reason. Hospitalizations are not a very reliable figure anyway, and I'm not understanding why you'd be interested in them. The core factor is the case number since that indicates how many people might end up in the hospital (the higher the case number, the more likely that the number of hospitalizations will also be higher).

So far New York is well on track to pass yesterday's new case totals, and that's definitely not a lagging figure, it's a figure that predicts the future.

How many people are dying who aren't hospitalized?

If the total is within lower season flu range, the we have to have a debate as to whether or not the actions taken were commensurate to the problem. It's not a simple yes or no, but rather "what can we do better next time better balance risk aversion with limiting disruption to every day life?" Hopefully the country can have that discussion without it immediately becoming a polarized issue.

I'm not delusional enough yet to believe that, sorry. More people have died in NY today than yesterday's reports already and it's just midday update.

Death is a lagging indicator. Hospitalizations peaked last week, so deaths will peak this week and then likely (and hopefully) sharply decline at similar rates to hospital admissions. We're on track for the total to be in line with seasonal influenza.

Hospitalizations in the epicenter of the outbreak are down 75% in four days. Models are wayyyyyyyy off on these assumptions (to a degree of 4x). I'm going to predict the final death tally by end of summer will be 30,000 or so.
