From a native New Yorkers point of view:

I lived in Baton Rouge for over a year in 2020-2021 (Baton Rouge is about an hour from New Orleans.) LSU dominates pretty much all of Baton Rouge. Tailgating LSU football games is absolutely dynamite. Almost everyone in the state (especially Baton Rouge) grew up there and went to LSU. They are very proud of their state college and its products (e.g., Joe Burrow).

The food in Louisiana is certainly less healthy than most of the country but also better tasting. Not only is there the obvious Cajun food, but so many fast food restaurants. Its almost embarrassing how little they try to be healthy. There are also very few diners which I found odd because I grew up on them. Food was inexpensive.

Very cheap to live in as property taxes are insanely low. I had a luxury one bedroom apartment for under $1k/month. Had a phenomenal gym, pool, and gated community.

I loved the open fields of Louisiana. Youd see green pastures as far as the eye could see with animals roaming in parts of the state, while other parts (New Orleans, Shreveport, etc.) were cities. I appreciated this because I grew up in a metropolis and wasnt used to such beautiful views.

The accents are pretty neat but they come off dumb and slow.

Not many young people willing to be your friend if you didnt grow up there. Tough to make friends especially if youre from anywhere besides Louisiana. Kind of cliquish in that regard. Southern belles are a real thing and they often are married by 24 for better or worse. Gorgeous women marry sloppy men for some reason here, I suspect because thats just the culture: fishing, mudding, and overall swamping around are desired traits as men.

Outside of Baton Rouge and New Orleans you have a few good cities like Lafayette and Shreveport. Surprisingly modern and metropolis-like.

Not as religious as youd think. At least not that I encountered.

Louisiana people either hate or love Texas and Florida people. Those two states are definitely the friends/foes for them.

I personally loved the warm weather. Its a humid state but it never bothered me. People made it sound like it would be terrible but it wasnt for me. Then again, I enjoy exercising in heat. It definitely got hot. Lots of bugs in the summer months. Lots of rain in the spring months. Worst part was definitely the hurricanes. Youd lose power for days sometimes and could die in some parts of the state.

Overall, I wouldnt recommend living there longer than a few years maximum if you arent from the south.

The reason I was asking about this movie is because I remember the final death / shovel scene was touching. I just rewatched the scene again now and man it was good. Brief, but good.

I think it came out around 2014 but could be wrong. The male actor had black, curly hair I think. He wasnt famous. The female actress was more popular but still super famous. I think she had strawberry blonde hair?

There was also a scene where she said she tormented her paralyzed brother.

Its about a boyfriend and girlfriend (theyre around 25 years old) and theyre somewhere in the Midwest. They start at a hotel and begin driving toward their next destination before the girlfriend starts freaking out and it doesnt relent unless the boyfriend goes back to the hotel.

Scenes keep cutting to a religious pastor of some sort who ends up being the girlfriends father.

In the end, the boyfriend kills the girlfriend after realizing she is evil or something. He ties her to a chair and she tells him to kill her, which he does with a shovel.
