Yeah, they played it really loose with the chronology. Another thing is that the monarch is Queen Victoria, who died in January 1901, so the game either has to take place in 1900 or Ace Attorney Queen Victoria lived longer than the actual one. Also, I think "I Am a Cat" ended up being published years before it actually was.

As for the jury, I'd probably go Juror No. X (GX-X), unless they're someone who shows up at some other point and you learn their name (or they say it, but I don't think any of the unnamed ones do).

Random fun fact: I don't know if the game openly reveals this or if they changed it in English to complete the reference, but Kazuma's sword is called Karuma, which is Manfred and Franziska's surname in Japanese. Not sure if they renamed it Karma in English or not, but I guess we'll see!

Didn't they outright say that an Asogi disciple named themselves after the sword? I took that to mean they were the von Karma's ancestor.

Plus, Van Zieks not talking at all during the summation examination doesn't help things. That happens super early in the case and he's basically absent for the whole thing.

Sorry, I realize this is really sidetracking things, but are there any examples of games that are explicitly set in Tokyo but where the names are localized? I feel like they wouldn't have set PW1 in LA today, but then I think about how the names would have all been left Japanese and I'm not so sure. PW1 has a pretty universal and not distinctly Japanese flavor to it, so setting it in any part of the world works, at least until the more distinctly Japanese-flavored cases happen but none of those are in PW1

I guess they always could've localized it with Japanese sounding names that have a pun that makes sense in English, like what they did with Nosa and Korekuta.

They didn't. The titles are exactly the same as they were in English in the Japanese version. Heck, G1-5's logo outright says "The Hound of the Baskervilles".

The only Holmes stuff they changed were Holmes himself and the Watsons. There's multiple other characters who have names directly lifted from Holmes stories who kept their names in the English version.
