Automata's quests in-the-moment are worse because 9S and 2B don't really talk or comment about everything and their personalities are much more bland, but the quests often recasts player interpretation of certain plot elements.

e.g. the amnesia quest foreshadows 2B's real identity, the wandering couples quest plays around with the idea of memory+identity that defines 2B's relationship to 9S's sacrifices, getting the roses for 6O makes the prologue for route C feel even worse. And these are just off the top of my head.

Nier's dialogue is much stronger, Automata feels much more complete, with many weird quirks in both the battle system+interface smoothed out and a much better coherence between the sidequests and the main story. Hits its emotional beats much more often too, although there are fewer.

Overall, I think Automata wins out, although it's still kinda janky in some ways. Both A and B routes felt less engaging than the first half of Nier and as sci-fi it is too human-centric.

I don't think this properly adjusts for socio-economic status. i.e. pranked again by simpson's paradox

So basic attributes, small spoilers:

Casually bats away Desert Eagle shots, gets shot straight in the eye at one point and it doesn't even scratch him.

Easily kills a... squad of at least like 20 people when he lost all of his defensive capabilities and all of them were fairly competent mage people with guns and stuff.

Can cause of blood stakes to shoot from his body while in Yetzirah state, whatever it hits gets its life drained. Those things can casually pulverize stuff like vending machines and go through them with only a bit of destructive power loss.

Defensive capability is determined by the quantity and quality of souls that he consumes (where quality is derived from the... I think basically the size of DETERMINATION and FEROCITY in the person), I don't have the number in front of me, but I think he's got around like 30k souls of PURE ARYAN WARRIORS and probably like several thousand more random soldiers from various wars in between. In terms of stated strength, he straight up was unscathed by air raid bombings on him. It's postulated that you'd basically need a nuke to kill someone at his level, but there's no real evidence supporting this.

Despite his bloodthirsty nature he's still a predator, it wouldn't be surprising if he plays a "pick off people one by one" strategy, since he loves 1v1s and hates people interrupting his fights.

I think the best chance of beating him is high end magic

So things that aren't in fate stay night that are relevant:

Archer has Durandal in UBW, which is indeed a holy sword. Not clear which one is more powerful vs dark between that and star dragon sword, but Archer would know given his ability to know the history and strength. I don't know if the star dragon sword was created exactly to destroy Neclord, but if it was, Archer would know that the sword was created specifically to damage and kill him from his history ability.

Hrunting is kinda a non-factor, he needs like half a minute to prime a couple so at this distance he won't be able to use it except as like, a generically powerful sword explosion.

So long as no one is on Archer instantly, I think he would be able to Caladbolg + explode. I think it'd be fairly difficult given that the terrain would be fairly jagged with the sword rains + the general swordspam in the air. A fairly well worn strategy is to just impede people's paths with a rain of swords forming an impromptu wall (does this in the UBW route several times)

Archer

Stuff about magic resistance from earlier is just flat out false. Kanshou and Bakuyas provide a boost to it (not to mention the Archer class's innate Magic resist), arguing for Demonic Meggido seems idiotic considering that, if they were close enough for Terra to be affected, it's going to affect the rest of Dracula's team too you know, and it's far more likely imo that Sora or Alice would be intercepting Terra if Terra charges (...which is of dubious validity anyway), Archer has a myriad of close to mid range ranged options from archer that are just straight up ignored, (rocket swords, rapidly firing swords from his bow without activating them as a NP, K&B being thrown being a few) that allows him to AoE effectively.

Basically all of the scenarios that DC outlines ignores that Archer has literally seen instances of them before and Archer's literal schtick is that "he plans super well for situations that he's seen before". Even ignoring that like, Alice dying from half or mostly healthy bypasses the hysteria state too? THE PREVIOUS IS NOT CENTRAL TO MY ARGUMENT. ARCHER HAS DEALT WITH REVIVING OPPONENTS WITH INVINCIBILITY BEFORE IS THE MAIN ONE.

I thought that when you said "Slow as f***", you meant that in an objective way e.g. much slower than a normal human, or like, actually encumbered, not that you were making a relative comparison.

Its range is pretty limited though; it's not exactly melee but it's pretty close. If I had to say, it's about two meters radius. It's not impossible to land, but the MEC would need to maneuver in order to use it. So it's possible that it's trying to punch Diablo instead or even a desperation reload is all he can do. Unless bass comes into melee range or something.

And yeah, thinking about it, if I was outfitting a MEC and knew they were starting out next to enemy team, I'd probably load out with: Kinetic strike, grenades and Electropulse. Maybe a tossup between endgame flamethrower and endgame kinetic strike. Proxy mines are great but not something that you'd want when you're up in someone's grill; same with the medic spray.

Eh, actually retract the counterattack thing; MEC needs to reload after bombardment, so has to switch to a secondary.

So, endgame mec trooper particle cannon does a lot of damage, but not enough to outright OHKO mid to endgame tanky units. I think it's the most damaging single target damage weapon, other than a fully upgraded endgame falcon punch or a fully upgraded damage specced Sniper.

I think the logical followup to this is either 1) Flamethrower 2) Electopulse (how does this interact with the nanomachines?) or charge in and 3) rocket punch someone. Even if someone gets an attack off on MECs, they can shoot back in reaction.

All I'm saying is MEC is serious business, but unlikely to have completely killed someone in the initial volley. Probably a followup is required.

Also, just so you know, I *believe* the choices are made to put you on like, the boundary of route selection, so you only need like a save for one or two choices at the end to switch a route. I advise leaving a save there and remembering to go back or just picking the other one and reloading when the scene "seems" done.

For those of you who don't know, the original release of this game was really tempestuous and the original writer ran out of time before completing two of the most important routes, so they hired outside help to finish it. However, one of the unfinished routes actually was supposed to come in between the finished routes.

Play out of recommended route order at your peril! It seems to really screw around with your event flags, and a bunch of scenes that "should" appear when you're on a route don't.

And none of this is enforced by the game.
