Explain and please dont use examples of professions like prostitution or drug dealing. Ill give an example of how my locally owned bookstore was forced to shut down and now has gone completely out of business. Was it right of the government to take away their livelihood and ruin them financially?

I dont think you understand that weve allowed the government control who can make a living or not, where you can shop or not, and who is essential or not. That term essential can be a scary one. This I can agree with. If the government is going to shut you down, then they damn well should be picking up your bills. Even though I dont support being dependent on the government, they should not be allowed to shut you down and say tough shit. Honestly the money should be coming from these overpaid politicians making these decisions as well as some of these giant companies that have been able to form almost monopolies over the market due to the shutdown.

Abortion is promoting freedom of choice.
Desegregation is promoting freedom overall.

If it was my business, I would make them prove it. Ultimately it should be consumer choice. They could put warnings/signs on your business warning consumers of the potential risk and then the consumer can make an educated choice if they still want to shop/go there. They shouldnt forcibly close down your business.

The only thing about this situation that would be potentially illegal is them making him pay for it if he refuses to get the lock installed because yes that would potentially be breaking contract. Rereading parts of the original letter that TC posted, I see no evidence of these claims and it makes me wonder if TC was either dramatizing or misinformed. More than likely there are clauses in the rental contract that the landlord has to the right to kick him out with X day notice. So them saying agree to the locks or your gone in 30 days is fair game.

The point is the government doesnt have the right to quarantine healthy individuals and determine what businesses and workers are allowed to operate. It kind of is unreasonable, though. They are basically forcing a new key system, that isnt needed. And tbh, really isnt better (though it depends on the actual things it can do). And if he doesnt want it, they make him pay for it to be installed later. But by installing it, they are making it so that they arent liable for stuff being stolen anymore. Meaning he has to have renters insurance. Though, Im not sure if keyless entry is really any better. And he loses some power/control over his apartment.
