Free up a ring slot, not have to keep a buff up, and use a shield with 100% physical reduction and high stability and it's still irrelevant Its more efficient to riposte and more than likely 1 shot whatever is attacking than you than just dancing around holding block, waiting for an opening. If you're going for a riposte... you're still waiting for the enemy to attack you. Using a shield you don't have to bother with timing, and can just wait for the enemy to recoil off your shield or sidestep and make it fumble, then kill it in less time than waiting for your critical animation to finish. If you can parry there's absolutely no reason not to. You're dealing massive damage and invulnerable. The massive damage is overkill on a lot of things and you're more invulnerable with a shield. |

Shields have been strictly a parry/stamina regen tool since 1 I don't know how things are in PvP, but for everything else they are absolutely broken in DS1/2. We've been over this before. You can block nearly everything with little effort, at a lower stamina cost than rolling, with a good tower shield. They make you invincible, basically, outside of PvP, without needing to time anything. |
