Protip: If you work retail, and someone else tells you they've worked retail for 5+ years, don't try to fuck with them, because you might lose your job. It isn't worth bickering or bucking over 7 bucks because you WILL lose.

Ok long story short; I go to gamestop today to trade in a couple of old games and buy CoD: Ghosts for the 360 since it went BC (before you ask, it is for the player count). It is 2.99 on the website.

So I get done with my trades (I didn't rip these bastards off like everyone has been this weekend) and I ask for a copy of Ghosts. Rings up $9.99. I'm like "hold up", and tell him that the website says 2.99. He gives me this nervous half ass explanation of how the website is slower to update, etc, etc. I tell him that I don't want it for 9.99, and if he doesn't match it I'll just go on the website and hit "pick up in store" and come back 30 minutes later and get it for 2.99.

So he refuses, says his MOD is sick and can't come out, and I was like "have a good day, thank you" (actually sounding sincere) and he just says "yep".

So I go to my car, pull up Ghosts for 360 for $2.99, hit 'pick up in store' (i saw 4-5 copies of it in the drawer), and I get an email ~30 mins later saying they couldn't find the item.

So the DM of Gamestop is calling me back about this, and I gave him all 1's on the survey (still did the trades so I still got a receipt). When I get done with the DM the employee will likely get fired, I'll get a free copy of Ghosts shipped to me, and nothing will change in my world.

Gamestop has stacks of applications from people wanting to work there. For a part time retail gig it probably isn't all that bad (don't have to deal with much heavy lifting, merchandising, etc.) I don't want anyone to lose their job really that badly but you have to realize you can't outright be that big of a dick to someone in the retail world and at least not get cussed out by your GM or DM.

I've thrown food and ketchup at people's cars before, as well as given them my manager's name multiple times. I've gotten into fistfights outside of the store, while clocked in (to be fair though, it was either me or the employee they dragged out there, and I know how to box), I've cussed customers out because they've been too drunk to actually function, then kicked them out, I've gotten into an altercation with a woman who urinated on the floor as a display of outrage. I've given out so much free food, and undercharged some customers, while overcharging the f*** out of others. I've told people that I hoped they get into a traffic accident on the way out of the drive thru.

I'm now in line to be the manager, with a $5/hr pay increase.

He's not getting fired. Get real.

The separation of the sauce is an issue. Butter-based sauces are tricky to pull off if not served immediately. Also, the heat of the food makes for an issue as well for said sauces. I usually prepare mine with an emulsifier right when the fish is finishing up, so it can be served immediately.

Yeah. It was the first time for me poaching fish, even cooking asparagus, and especially making beurre blanc so it was lots of new things so I miscalculated some time stuff. But that's what's fun with cooking, learning and stuff. The sauce is quickly made so that's good. Next time I'll do it as the last step. It did turn out super awesome the first time, it just got ruined while my veggies had to get done.

Exactly. Cuisine is something you learn from experience. It actually does look like I'd f*** with it. I'd eat that s*** right up if it was in front of me. We oughta exchange recipes and stuff.

Also, as far as presentation goes, the lattice of vegetables that you laid your fish over is a good idea, but for next time (since you said you were unsatisfied with the presentation), try drizzling the sauce instead of spooning it.

Why would you not pan-sear the salmon first, then use the fond and white wine to deglaze, then adding butter and sauteing the shallots in it before thickening a bit by cooking it down?

It wasn't what I wanted to do. That's not beurre blanc sauce. And I wanted to poach fish since it's new thing for me.

So you boiled fish, then basically destroyed it with butter and expensive green onion?
I mean, to each their own. If it tasted good, then hey, good for you.

No, I poached it. I didn't boil it. You can poach fish you know. Why are you being so hostile? And read, I didn't use any green onion.

I was referring to your use of shallots as careless.
And I already said that if you liked it, then it works for you.

I'm just saying that you don't actually know what you're talking about, and you're not just out and saying "I'm in a high school econ class, and think I know everything there is to know about an advanced subject I clearly have no actual experience in. Also, John Maynard Keynes was right about everything, and a flat tax is just the best idea ever.", even though your arguments pretty much point it out for you. So it's all good.

Right now we just have a bunch of people drowning while trying desperately to swim to make sure they aren't trapped under the current.

And that's their problem, not the government's if they're so unskilled or too lazy to better themselves why bother with them in general?

And how would you so broadly suggest one "better themselves"?

Stop having kids would be where I would start.

And for the vast majority of people who don't have kids, due to not making enough to actually support the little parasites?

That's a small percentage of people who are on welfare, EBT, or receive some form government assistance.

I want to be focused on the macro, of which those who generate the most in financial assistance also have children. That's where I would start.

Well, sure. The whole "Less mouths to feed" philosophy has always been valid, but you're trying to use a future problem (unconceived future children) as a solution to a present issue, which is people can't afford to have kids, or even really support themselves, and the dependence on government assistance is a direct consequence of a lack of an actual living wage.

So I ask again, how. do. we. fix. this?

never heard of that sauce before

It's white wine sauce.

But like 90% butter.

You reduce white wine, white-wine vinegar with chopped shallots so it's almost dry, you can add some cream if you want to help with the emulsion, reduce that. Add cubes of butter and it needs to melt, not too high or low heat, strain it and then season it to taste. It's a sweet and sour buttery sauce.

Also a student, who has taken economics courses. Basic economics is really all you need to understand how wages work...

This just in, a self-perceived understanding of economics, which is in and of itself, a complicated subject that people with much more experience dealing with it admit is complicated, is actually all you need to fix the economy.

In other news, a psych 101 class is now all that a student needs to treat others as a personal psychiatrist.

Well, raising a minimum wage is supposed to work like this:

People work the same amount but get paid more, so that they can use that money to further stimulate the economy, which feeds more money into industries that money is spent on, thereby ensuring that growth happens pretty much all around, ensuring better product and experience for all. Then, when enough time has passed, the consumer goods market would have changed so much that a new, higher price is acceptable to the general public.

However, the way it actually works is this:

Cost of living goes up to levels that most cannot afford, even though the minimum wage was originally designed to be a living wage that would adjust given the market at time of adjustment. Then people complain about how hard it is to make rent and fulfill basic needs with one, or even sometimes two, jobs, despite having to put up with an overwhelming amount of shit from entitled people, for the same amount of time. Then said individuals that complained get thrown a bone in the form of a pay raise that still isn't enough to afford living on your own,

It takes $19/hr to rent your own apartment here, if you're working a full-time job before pay gets taxed. Minimum wage is $11.25. Minimum wage needs to be raised more depending on what state workers live in, to at least match cost of living. .Right now we just have a bunch of people drowning while trying desperately to swim to make sure they aren't trapped under the current.
