I voted no (don't have children), but in really extreme circumstances I might hit them. Consecutive hits seems unnecessary to me, however, the kid should get the message after one.

There is a pretty valid chance that my hypothetical future child will be much like me, so I doubt I would reach a point of actually becoming physical, considering I was not a problem child myself (and being yelled at was effective enough for me). I can't account for what genes and behaviors would be passed down from the hypothetical mother, of course.

I don't have a PS4, I am still lacking in a gaming PC, but I do have a Switch.

Works for me! Though I'd imagine I would have a gaming PC and a PS4 by the time the game actually releases. In which case... well, the handheld function could still be the selling point that could drive me to get it for the Switch.

Actually, less, because we keep on throwing things off the Earth. Though maybe it balances out with all the organisms, particularly humans, who are marching around.

TopicStop calling your drug addiction a disease
M-Watcher

Why yes, the initial choice and action of taking a drug is not a disease.

But you like it. Or maybe you need it for some condition. And then eventually, your body adapts to it. Now it's part of your life, whether you like it or not, your body needs it to function, otherwise the withdrawal symptoms kick in. Your mind lingers on it, and part of your life revolves around on how to get more of it.

That seems to be the disease part of addiction. Not the act of taking it, but how the body eventually relies on it. And it is lifelong, even if you are clean for years and years, if you take it again, you are likely to end up right back to square one.

Oh yeah, there is likely also a genetic predisposition towards addiction. Kind of like how there is genetic predisposition towards heart disease. It lies there, hidden, until the right circumstances causes it to activate.

Or maybe I'm just full of shit. After all, taking a single class on substance use disorders (...Though a disorder is not necessarily a disease...) is not expertise, but hey, I get to look at a bunch of sciency stuff and regurgitate the info on a topic like this.

well, i normally only take the adderall if i really need to focus too. If I take it every day in a row I get angry and easily frustrated. I've had to take it a lot recently though

I assume final papers and exams are rough for you. I actually had to drink coffee along with taking Ritalin in order to stay up to do my papers. I don't even like coffee that much, but it's my only source of caffeine.

It should say right on the bottle that it's recommended to eat something with it.

I'm tempted to recommend just not taking it, though, but everyone's experience is different. Adderall caused anxiety even with minimal dosage, Vyvanse made me so tired that I could not function, and Strattera gave me horrible stomach aches. Ritalin is the only one that seems to work for me, but I'm on a minimal dose and I don't feel that much different on it. And I only take it when I think I need extra focus for a day, like with big homework assignments. I would rather function on my own merits for the most part, my ADHD is very mild anyway.

Yep. Lactose is a sugar, so if you see a dairy product with zero sugar, it's lactose-free. Quite a number of cheeses are lactose-free because the sugars are burned away.

Yogurt has some good bacteria for the digestive system, which can offset some issues with lactose intolerance... it's not guaranteed, however.

I'm not much of a fan of yogurt and some cheeses, though.

Eternal Data Storage:

Everything degrades eventually, and there is no way to store data on one device for truly extended periods of time. But that may no longer be true due to a discovery made by the University of Southampton. Scientists have successfully used nano-structured glass to create a process for recording and retrieving data. The storage device is a small glass disk about the size of an American quarter that can hold 360TB of data and remain intact up to 1,000°C. This means that its average shelf life when held at room temperature would be approximately 13.8 billion years (Roughly the same amount of time the universe has existed).

Data is written on the device using an ultrafast laser via short and intense light pulses. Each file is written in three layers of nanostructured dots that are only 5 micrometers apart. When read, the data is realized in five dimensions: the three dimensional position of the nanostructured dots as well as their size and orientation.

Damn, that could make for a pretty incredible time capsule.

Go read some first hand accounts of the Hiroshima bombing. The stuff is literal nightmare fuel at times. For instance, a woman tries to help an old man sitting on the step of a house as the fires burn around her, only to find his skin sloughs off when she grabs his hand, and his body slumps to the ground leaving a silhouette burned on the wall behind him. The actual effect, on people, of those in the burn radius is absolutely horrifying (And, of course, those who slowly die from exposure to fissile fallout).

Just reading this alone made my stomach churn.. awful.. absolutely fucking awful.

I've been to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum.

It's... certainly quite something.

My best comparison is that it's like going to a Holocaust Museum, except everyone and everything was wrecked at once instead of over a period of time. Of course, there is also the effects after the blast.
