It is (probably) a waste of money if you are healthy, but with some low probability it might end up being super useful. If I'm an insurance company, I lose money if I only sell plans to sick people; I might as well close up shop and do something else. But if everyone does this, that means we have just decided as a society that we're fine with saying "f*** sick people." I don't know how long ago I last played it, but I had forgotten that there was actually some slightly nontrivial branching (if you fail to press April May hard then she won't tell you who Redd White is, and you have to find out from Grossberg instead).
