Pigs are friends. But they have not evolved so closely with humans unlike dogs. Dogs have a level of trust with humans and people see it right to betray that trust just to get a quick meal.

Apparently she got another real hamster now. That really pisses me off. Why would anyone allow her to do that? Aside from a long stay in prison, she needs a plushie if all she wants is to be able to pet something and then dispose of it once she's bored.

Turducken posted...
Okay, what do you got against plushies you racist son of a bitch?

I have nothing against plushies, but even you with your carnivorous monstrosity of a name could agree that flushing a plushie down a toilet is less cruel than flushing a living hamster down a toilet. Not that it would even get to that point because nobody cares about banning plushies seeing as they're nothing more than fabric and stuffing. They are perfect for the types of people that see animals as things so that they don't abuse real animals.

It's wrong to eat any meat, especially that of man's best friend. Dogs have coevolved with us for so long that eating them is practically cannibalism. It's even more disgusting than eating a pig. It's like eating an ally.

I can think of one.

Plants are far more dissimilar to humans than other animals are, evolutionary speaking. A plant doesn't think or feel in ways we can relate. Insects are a step above, vertebrates above that, then amniotes, mammals, primates, humans, you own kin, etc.

With a "sliding scale" like this you can draw a line wherever you don't feel comfortable killing the thing for food anymore.

And that line should be at plants. If you're really against killing plants you can even be a fruitarian. I call myself a moderate vegan, so I don't do that far.

Actually, she tried making other arrangements. She tried to rent a car but couldn't because she was too young, and her friends were too far to get them to take the hamster in.

Still not an excuse to flush a living creature down the toilet.

humans need the nutrients from meat for a balanced, healthy diet. My cousin tried to go vegan and started losing her hair. You need to take like all these vitamins or find some obscure alternatives to get it to work. We're omnivorous. Why on earth should we be ashamed of this when no other species on this planet is. We eat living plants. We eat living animals. This is life.

Further, by going vegan, you are literally making no impact on the production of animal meat on a global scale, or even a national or local scale.

That is all.

Unlike other animals, we can make the choice. We're not even real omnivores. Real omnivores can eat and digest meat just fine, we need to cook it though. We don't have fangs. We have longer intestines meant to digest plants more efficiently. We adapted to meat, but we're not built for it. Further, we also have empathy and compassion. That's not to say animals lack it, but we struggle less to survive, so we're able to make a greater effort to be compassionate to others, whether it be to other humans or animals.

OliviaTremor posted...
Yup. It sucks that Spirit initially told her she could fly but flushing a hamster down the toilet is such an insane thing to do. Even if some employee did say 'you should flush it down the toilet', it is ridiculous she actually would.

It's the perfect example of how people treat pets as disposable things. Ever wonder why there are so many surrendered dogs in shelters? The dog isn't as cute, fashionable, or fun as it grew up.

guffguy89 posted...
We have to remember this woman had a service pet for a reason. It's possible she wasn't emotionally or mentally able to make a rational decision when confronted with this unexpected turn of events.

Then maybe she should have a service plushie and flush that down the toilet when she's had enough of it. I wouldn't care if she flushed a hamster plush away.

guffguy89 posted...
I think it should also be noted that hamsters live on average only 1 to 3 years. So, she has probably been through several support hamsters and maybe this one was already old anyways.

No excuse. Get a plushie.

Before I go further, you probably think that because I eat meat that I support such things as flushing hamsters down toilets and throwing puppies off cliffs. Not true. I am of the belief that unless your intent is beneficial for humans (Ie food), the animals should be treated with kindness and respect.

This type of comment is why I feel that it's perfectly acceptable for animals to eat people.

Oh I'd love to see the pro-cruelty people defend this one. Bring it on, carnivores.

Before I go further, you people probably think that because I'm vegan that I oppose such things as companion animals and emotional support animals. Not true. I am of the belief that cross-species relationships can be beneficial for humans and animals, provided that the animal is treated with kindness and respect.

This is not what this hamster got.

This girl went on a flight on Spirit Airlines with her emotional support hamster which is as much of a service animal as a seeing eye dog, while causing way less potential damage than a peacock. Spirit didn't see it that way though and ordered her to do the unthinkable: Get rid of her hamster using an airport toilet or not be able to board her flight. So she did what any treasonable person would do and not make other arrangements for her hamster, not reach out to people above the employee (that is probably only making $12/hour, let's be honest), not make any other arrangements at all. No, she went to the bathroom, dropped her "emotional support" in the toilet, and flushed it away like a piece of crap because she just wanted to go on her cheap flight.

Does anyone care? Not Spirit Airlines. And she claims to care, but if she did, she wouldn't be flushing her emotional support animal down the toilet. I can't imagine what the poor creature had to endure as it traveled through and died in the sewers.

I personally think we should build a big toilet and flush her and the entire staff of Spirit Airlines down it. Because this is just wrong and a perfect example of how people see animals. Look, if you want to get something cute and furry without wanting to care about its life or feelings, get a fucking plushie. Not that people that abuse plushies wouldn't go on beyond that and abuse real animals, but still.

Now let's hear it, meat eaters. Defend this person.

I'm 7 months pregnant and so my doctor likes to check up on me. She was talking to me about nutrition. And it's the same old thing again and again. She gave up trying to convince me to eat meat, but now she wants me to drink cow milk. It's supposed to be "good" for me and "good" for my developing baby. Look doctor, I'm a VEGAN. That means nothing from an animal. Cows are animals. Listen, if I'm going to consume any milk, it's coming from a coconut or almonds, not from a cow or a goat or anything else.

I'm going to go even further and say that at this point I am going to raise Fox to be a vegan. He won't have cow milk. He won't even have my milk. He'll be on vegan formula until he's ready for solid food, which will never have anything from an animal.

I don't know what the problem this doctor has or what she thinks she knows, but I think it's clear she's clueless. I just needed to vent, thanks for listening.

So far 3 people have said Vader and 2 said Fox. I like Star Wars and Vader is a nice, commanding name that will strike fear to my kid's enemies. I still like Fox though, because it's a nice name especially for someone that will be born because of furries getting together and because his dad is a fox.

I had an ultrasound yesterday. The doctor didn't take long to see that it's clearly a boy. I guess I have a male inside me again.

Now that I know it's a he, it's time to name him. I want a good name for him and I don't want to go through baby name books to find one. So I am relying on you to name my baby.

I need another favor too. It's Thanksgiving and I'm with extended family. I just know my pregnancy will come up, my belly is getting big. How can I handle prodding questions from family? Give me advice on this.

I owe you people an update on me as my life changes before my own eyes. I've been really busy but I decided to keep the baby. I still haven't found the father and I'm about to give up and just try again next time I'm at Anthrocon. I'm back in my second to last semester of college and trying to balance school and pregnancy but it's going to be a challenge, especially when I feel sick.

But given my topics here, you people know that I'm not a quitter and I'm a fighter. I even fight my doctor when she tells me that I should eat more meat to get protein for my baby. Who does she think she is to tell me to eat animals?

Anyway just thought I'd let you people know what's up and why I haven't posted. I'm just busy but fine.
