Penny for y'all's thoughts on Tower of Fantasy? Got suckered into trying it because of a new character's ad or something, not that I expect to actually pull for said character lol. Game feels a little jank from the little I've played of it, like referring to some actions as tapping them even though I'm on console, or some UI/tutorial messages stretching off screen. Tried a few times to get into it, but it's just not grabbing me. Like, is there an actual point to the characters you unlock through gacha or is it just for their weapons/movesets and appearance mostly? Is there any statistical difference between characters? Can you earn free gacha currency through dailies or weeklies and such or do you have to suck it up and whale?

You don't buy Switch games if you're looking for a good deal, unfortunately. There's a reason why I barely buy anything for the dang thing.

I'm still waiting for Operation Convergence rerun, assuming the wiki isn't wrong and I didn't miss it somehow. I was still pretty new at the time so I never got the chance to pull for Brunhilde.

Aside from KOTOR, both of which I already have. Trying to play a little bit of KOTOR 1 every night actually, I'm really having fun with it after becoming a jedi. I'm not interested in playing whichever game has you playing as goofy-ass stormtroopers either, I just want to be a badass space wizard. Mainly looking for anything that's available on Steam and PlayStation consoles. Maybe Switch as long as it's retro enough to not run like shit.

It is its own self-contained narrative, and the fallout from it is nothing that isn't already explained in 1. Curse of being a prequel and all. The only counterpoint to that would be the attention it gives Majima, but if you look at the series as a whole, Majima isn't really that prominent of a character anyway, despite his popularity.

Which is kinda funny, because 0 would be the game that from my own perspective I'd say is the last one you should skip from a general sense, given its overall quality.

5 does contend, though. Except it introduces Watase who ends up being important in later games.

With the way Gaiden is going, I wonder if the answer will end up being 6, lol. >_>

But really, if you're invested in the series, don't skip any games. They all have something to offer.

And if you're not invested in the series, play which ones you want to play, skip around all you want, and let no one tell you otherwise.

0 enhances 1's story by more thoroughly exploring the brotherly bond between Kiryu and Nishiki, which makes the latter's downfall so much more tragic than it was originally presented. I'd say 0 is pretty important just for that.

Haruka's chapter got to the point where I only engaged with her side content just for the unique Amon encounter, and if it wasn't for that then I would've just blitzed the campaign because I just wanted it to fucking end so I could go back to fighting people in my beat em up game. Saejima's hunting though, that I actually kinda liked. No overexposed pop music, just him, his rifle, and winter ambiance while calmly and methodically hunting wildlife. Helps that by the time you finish his part you'll have Herculean Spirit and Tiger Dragon Drop so you can just return to monke for the rest of his fights.

3 is still worth playing just for the final boss, legitimately top tier Yakuza fight. I also actually liked the orphanage segments of the game, felt really nice to see Kiryu just living his best life for a while. Sadly, the plot itself is a little bit bonkers, and doesn't have as much relevance to later games in the series, so for that reason alone I'll have to admit it's the most skippable. Still worth playing though imo.

4 should literally never be skipped, that's the one where Akiyama is actually fun to play. That beautiful man seriously deserves his own game.

As a huge Rune Factory fan it bums me out nobody has mentioned Rune Factory 4 Special. The best game in the series.

Speaking of Rune Factory @ TC, do not waste your money on the Switch version of Rune Factory 5, that game is like, modern Pokemon levels of poorly optimized. As soon as I first tried the PC version I couldn't even think about going back to the Switch version.

Get Live A Live if you want to play something that isn't as bloated as a typical JRPG. Monster Sanctuary scratches the monster collection itch as well as Metroidvania if you're into the latter genre. The Tenth Line is another solid RPG that doesn't get talked about much.

Have you tried Flashpoint (flash game emulator)? It's worth seeing if it's on there at least. And even if it isn't, there are tons of classic flash games on there still.

Firefox, especially if you use it on desktop because you can sync your browsing and bookmarks. Any essential extensions you may need can conveniently be downloaded straight from the addon manager.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes, the 80s OVA version. It's a philosophical anime about a long running war between democratic rebels and an autocratic empire. What makes it stand out from similar plot hooks is that you view the war through both side of the conflict in equal measure, and the central thematic conflict of the story is that of a benevolent dictator vs a corrupt democracy.

That's mostly just Neon being Neon, lol. Any horny content these games have is usually optional, and I only say usually because adult content is bound to pop up in a series involving the criminal underworld. For me, what makes these games worth it is the unique juxtaposition between serious crime drama and sometimes goofy, sometimes heartfelt side stories. Some of the main stories even actually have good writing too, with 0 remaining a fan favorite for several good reasons. If you ever actually get curious enough to try one of these games, you can never go wrong with playing 0.

So after barely a year of service it rebooted just for the reboot die in the same year. Had a charming aesthetic too, but guess that wasn't enough to carry it, huh? What, were there not enough whales to support it or something?

So what's going on with Space Leaper, if anyone here is still keeping up with that? Got the urge to give Cocoon another try recently just to find out it's been rebooted. I've read that the reboot is supposed to be on the google play store but I can't find it. Is that game just not a thing anymore on android or something?

To be fair, I was just a dumb kid when the first two games were relatively new so maybe I just didn't get it back then. If there was any guarantee of the series reaching a proper conclusion within my lifetime I could maybe give it a try, but between knowing that every game so far ends on a cliffhanger and 3 having such irredeemably bad combat, it's just something I don't want to invest any time in with the benefit of hindsight. Which is a shame because I probably would at least like the first one if I gave it an honest shot.

Speaking of Twilight Princess, I remember there used to be a bunch of RP topics on that board before mods cracked down on it, then those got moved to the Japanese version of the first Zelda game's social board for a while before eventually migrating to its own site. Wonder what all those people from back then are up to nowadays. Guy who ran that shit actually posted on this board for a while, he seemed like kind of a nutter.

Been playing KOTOR 1 for the first time, still on Taris but I'm really having fun with it. Every hour that I spend not playing it gets me thinking about how much I really want to play it at that precise moment, which is getting increasingly rare for me lately. This is legit awakening a craving within me for classic RPGs that aren't JRPGs. Also, how many NN games are there precisely, just 2? And what's the most convenient way to play them? Steam, GOG? And do those include all expansions?

As someone who adored the original and played through it...I think four times(?) the sequel was a bit of a letdown. The battle system mechanics were peak, and the characters gave a lot of options for combat, but alchemy and the Grow Book was rather badly downgraded. And the best part of the original, the Character Quests, well...they never allowed the characters to actually develop. Who the characters are at the start of the game is who they are at the end.

I actually liked Mana Khemia 2's grow book because it incentivized making 100 e-level items to completely fill it out, which made me put some serious thought into which characters I should use to make each recipe.

Character-wise, I remember really liking Yun. You actually do learn why he's a mercenary as you progress his character quests, and it's honestly one of the better storylines in the game.

And despite not having as much relevance to the main plot, Raze had some pretty funny moments when he wasn't too busy being an edgelord. His ending with Lily in particular was an amusing subversion of his seeming obliviousness to her romantic interest in him. The rest of the characters though, yeah I can agree that they all wore out their welcome by the end.

Yeah I'd prioritize getting the projectile parry ability if you don't already have it, it's pretty essential when you've got a bunch of ranged attackers harassing you. If you're playing Give me God of War difficulty, make sure to throw your axe at any enemy that suddenly starts glowing to interrupt their attempt at leveling up mid-fight, I'd recommend disabling aim assist for that.

Oh, and Mystic Gateways also heal you to full when activated.

How do I heal

You stomp on glowing green stones on the ground while exploring, sometimes dropped by enemies. Later in the game you'll get a runic summon that digs up health and rage stones. Rage mode (L3+R3) heals you as well. The dwarves will sell resurrection stones that Atreus can use when you die. Dying and continuing restores your health to full.

Have you played UDG or watched DR3 at least? Akane isn't a great character by any means, but worst in the franchise is a bit of a stretch.

Get an Asus TUF then, they're dummy thicc. Supposedly military grade durability, whatever that means.

Tubi has uncensored Hell's Kitchen and the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, so that's pretty cool.

All games run at 720p (even on PS5, XSX and Steam), locked framerate, MGS1 suffers from stuttering, missing content, trigger warnings, input latency on consoles, keyboard controls are bafflingly bad.

Konami really did the bare minimum with this.

Can you elaborate on what content is missing without delving too much into story spoilers? I haven't played these games before and I'm already a little bit mad that my most accessible way to play these games is with a lazy port job.

Can't go wrong with Persona. 4 Golden is a classic, 5 Royal is good (recommend the PS4 version specifically because it has DLC costumes that were removed in later releases), and 3 is getting a remake released next year.

I like to play SADX with an instant light speed dash mod. Makes it feel so much more fluid especially since your relatively more limited moveset means the input for it isn't competing with anything.

Nothing to be sorry for. Not all SA1 stages are winners, but nothing can top the atmosphere of Emerald Coast. The music, the color palette, the sunny beaches, the relatively open environments to explore, it's all just *chef's kiss*.
