I mean it's a woman with the greatest crossover appeal so it's clearly wrong.

And they did have a woman as VP as their pick not too long ago and the biggest objection wasn't that she's a woman but an idiot. Yet plenty of republicans still voted that way!

Yeah, plus if the DCCC has the magical ability to gerrymander things so well that even AOC (one of the most recognizable figures in the democratic party who just beat a democratic incumbent anyway) is in trouble, why wouldn't they do it in such a way to eliminate a republican seat?

Frank Lutz is a big dummy is the point I'm trying to make here.

A few corrections to make here.
1, she didn't exactly beat a democratic incumbent, she primaried him. It wouldn't be a problem now but it's important to note as a big distinction as that's what she's actively doing to others. She's not kicking out Republicans, she's kicking out democrats.

2, as a result of that it's democrats who hate her more than republicans, who are challenging her more, and who need to be more fearful. So when the state Congress picks people you're gonna get a united front of democrats and republicans that don't like her.

3, the ability to redraw district lines isn't some odd power, it's what happens after the census. She's in trouble there because her district may not be able to matter due to weak numbers. A lot of republican ones won't have that problem.

3, I wasn't basing anything off that guy. I was basing it off an issue that's been known for, and has been established by her specifically, as a problem for about a year now. It's come up again recently as a concern as we cemented our loss of a seat and should come up more often throughout the year. Those are her words.

4, she could indeed try to run elsewhere but at that point it'd be an actual election process, not just a primary. She's not gonna be able to sneak by like that again.

She's had district problems for a while because her district has a lot of illegal immigrants and there's fears of the already existing underreporting escalating further. She herself addressed this issue months ago. Like almost a year ago.

https://theintercept.com/2019/02/09/ocasio-cortez-district-redistricting-2020/

It's literally what she's said herself. The biggest problem she faces are Dems, not Republicans. Hell, she's recently mentioned that there's a ton of people fighting for her seat right now. As it stands we're losing one for sure, a second is possible depending on the numbers. If she's going to continue pissing off every other official, then the people who the state senate and state assembly pick aren't likely going to be people who like her. So tie together her having few political allies at either state or federal level with a district expected to have low turnout on a candidate that is actively wants to be a pain in the ass and you've got yourself a solid recipe to cut her out procedurally. It'll be a lot easier than electorally.

Meanwhile in plane news, Iran took back their claim that the plane had changed direction too.

So we've gone from...

Malfunction
Technical error, either due plane or pilot
Air collision
Engine malfunction
(No black box, bulldozing, we did nothing)
Okay we did it BUT the plane did a sharp turn
Okay we did it

Next step in this admission is that they were incredibly irresponsible to allow commercial flights while in that state.

And after that i look forward to seeing it be a rogue soldier.
Then his division.
Then a general.

Edit:
Okay i should've kept reading this Times article, we already hit that part. Now it's "jamming" and a general leading air space units has accepted fault. So we skipped the individual and went to the general at least. So next step after that is there was no jamming but at this point we're pretty high up the chain.

Mr. Hajizadeh, the Iranian official who accepted responsibility for the missile strike, said the plane had been misidentified as a cruise missile and was shot down with a short-range missile that exploded near the plane.

He said the Iranian missile operator had acted independently because of jamming. Asked during his address why Iranian airspace was not shut to commercial air traffic amid the attacks, Mr. Hajizadeh had no clear answer.

I wish I was dead, Mr. Hajizadeh was quoted as saying by local news outlets. I accept all responsibility for this incident.

Taken to its logical conclusion the blame game would end up going around the world and it'd e everyone's fault. Trump would go back to Obama which would also go to Bush and so on. Including their voters, so if you voted for Obama back in 2012 you're at fault too. Hell, we'd be at fault for 9/11. Similarly you'd have the opposing sides all at fault too (pick your Middle East county) and work that butterfly effect backwards to who knows how long. Everyone did everything wrong.

Which is why nobody really uses blame and fault like this. Who pulled the trigger, did it happen of their own will, cool, done. These two aspects can be debated depending on the specifics but there's not much debate here, they just fucked up, desperately tried to cover it up, and failed.

AOC might not be in office soon anyway considering her district is on the shortlist for the one that may be cut after the census. If she wants her house seat she should focus back on her community, or she very well won't have one. Which may be for the best considering she's less there representing them and more kind of her own thing and is better elsewhere.

On plane news, Iran is now literally bulldozing the area, with pictures of bulldozers in the area, and them saying they wouldn't do it. Meaning they're doing it as fast as fucking possible.

Steyer doesn't offend me but his spending does. The man's put down 100 mil on the election. In terms of donations he doesn't need them and he's spending his own money, the only purpose is to get him on the stage.

But he's not memorable in any way, he's just there. He's their Kasich.

Honestly i don't know. Like i see an article on the NYT saying "this is the moment it got hit!" using the same video. But I can't tell a damn thing and have no idea how true that is: it's dark, a flash of light, and it's 19s. You can't tell region, item, or anything. I'm skeptical of any new media on things like this because I've seen them fooled way too often in recent years so I'm not gonna trust pics or videos unless it's firmly verified to being exactly what it says it is.

Are you talking about the defence budget? Doesnt seem like bullshit. The House actually approved those amendments back in July. That means the Senate stripped them out, then later most Dems caved instead of risking a government shutdown. Then this disaster happens. Progressives get to say "I told you so" and war hawks are happy but everyone else including guys like Lee here are upset they got outplayed by an incompetent administration and on damage control. Checks out to me.

Bipartisan compromise at work!

Hm, maybe I'm being too harsh on the house Dems then. I remember there were three, one of which was by Tulsi, and it was so simple and clear. I'm all in favor of reigning in the executive as that's long overdue. As it stands he can do just about anything.

It's a malfunction because they hit the wrong one.
Not that I think that aspect matters since an uptick of terrorism just means more deaths without them being attributed as the source.

Of course it's not the end.
On the US part, we're still gonna be in the region and are offsetting our troops for NATO troops (so still ours). Iraq probably isn't too thrilled with Iran either so they're gonna be more open to us shuffling around like that. On Iran's part, their revenge is in terrorism. Not this. If it was an attack on a plane that'd be more like it, though they'll try their best to say it's a malfunction and, should that fail, blame other forces. Anything to not have Canada, the UK, Ukraine, and Germany on their back for dead citizens (Sweden is more of a pushover but they've got some too.

Do note the amount of theatre done here by the way. Iran said they killed 80 Americans in their attack, we've said it's 0. Iran is refusing to give Ukraine - or anyone - the black box and immediately said it was a malfunction, still unknown.

Just keep in mind how much their lying escalated the issue and how their lying is trying to protect themselves while also tooting their own horns. And it's not like we aren't lying either, we don't know what "minimal damage" means. But 80 to 0 is massive and taking the night to readjust was the right call as any immediate action would've been using their lies to make everything worse.

China is stronger than you think.

Nah, they're realistically more just a competitive 4th. Russia is still a strong 2 despite their decline and Japan, despite not having a military, is consistently ranked as one of the strongest in the world (usually 4th to 7th) and their not-Navy is second to us. In a war with China they hold a massive advantage due to better tech, an already stupidly good not Navy, and a moderately strong not air force. Gotta remember that despite the land mass China is remarkably easy for them to hurt since everyone's on the coast facing them, meaning even Russia would have a harder time fighting them. When you add in the fact that they spend just 50 billion currently... They're basically the sleeping giant, Russia is the big dog, and China is the paper tiger.

Should they maintain their hold on Africa though, that can change extremely fast. They're already trying to establish routes across the continent and if they can set up on the Atlantic side over the next few decades then they're no question taking that #2 for covering the world.

Honestly you're 100% right and I respect that argument a lot. I think we need to prepare for China in 50 years by building up a preposterously strong military, but totally valid to think that they'll stagnate soon.

China's not a concern militarily, Russia is still stronger and honestly if they fought Japan again I think they'd get schooled once more. They have a large standing army but that's it.

Economically they're a monster and regionally they've conquered a significant chunk of Africa, with all its land and resources, with zero actual pushback. That's the area we should have focus on if we care about China. Ideally Europe would but due to politics they're much more restrained.

I skimmed most of the recent topics but didn't Wang spend a good two days straight arguing that Iran wouldn't dare respond to the assassination in an overt way and anything they were saying was just bluffing

Huh? I said that they'd respond but it would be in more covert ways. It wouldn't be declaring war, it'd be more in terrorist actions. That said it'd be dumb of them to because doing so just asks us to clap back and we'll do it harder.

Catching up to the topic now so don't know if that got covered. But yeah, my position was Iran would retaliate but without a war declaration, instead doubling down on terrorism with an uptick of attacks that way.

Edit: checked the old topic. First thing i said on it:

yeah, iran will retailate but that'll be in the form of messing around in the middle east some more, in ways that we don't have much control or knowledge of.

mind you, there's a valid question to "aren't they doing that anyway?" and there's a valid statement that without this commander it cripples them, tactically. on both fronts this ends up being quite non consequential. but there's also no way of knowing exactly how this escalates beyond that. will they declare war, of course not. why declare war when you can use your military without that or, better yet, use "non military forces" instead?

Which all is holding true, minus the terrorist uptick, for now.

Like i personally split nominee and candidate. Former is your party, latter is the election. Since... Well, former is the party selection, aka, nominating. The latter you're actually running, aka, a candidate.

Basically do not underestimate Cruz. That seems incredibly foolish to do, he ain't a Rand Paul.

There may well be an escalation on that, though if that gets tied back we'll probably kill some more of their military leaders as the only place their budget has gone to thanks to sanctions collapses. Due to the time frame and the fact that this would've been voted a clear yes, I'm okay with this being without approval, despite the fact that it should've been.

And Tony, Trump isn't Obama. While war and Obama go over well, it's a really bad mix with Trump supporters as they've been consistently anti-war. It's one of the major overlaps he shares with Bernie. This attack will go over fine due to the recent actions by Iran and the specific target. Hell, it'll go over well with anybody on the left who had a major problem with pulling out of Syria since we probably fucked Iran on that too.

He actually does some of the crazier stuff people claim to be afraid of what Trump would do. Biggest example being the way some people go "Trump will rewrite the rules to get a third term/stay in power even if voted out!"

Yeah, Bloomberg literally did that.
He handpicked people on a council to change the rules so he could run a third time. Fuck that guy. The soda ban he's infamous is something I can understand, even if that was massive overreach and clear to favor some industries, hurt most, and especially hurt people in the middle and lower income. Same for stop and frisk, i get the concept and where the logic failed. Most of his anti-congestion ideas were pretty solid, for non car owners anyway. Third term though? Wholesale bullshit with an election he bought and the competition utterly sucked. Him over anyone is a damn sanity check.
