The MCU never made a movie that tops the first Iron Man.

Quantum of Solace is good.

Ninja Turtles 3 commits many sins but it's a really fun film in spite of them. Maybe if Hollywood made more time traveling superhero samurai period pieces I'd be harsher on it, but it fills such a narrow niche I can't help but love it. >_>

Also flirting with a reread of Final Empire while I wait for a mistborn era 2 box set to come in. Just the prologue but I forgot how much I loved that intro. Maybe I'm weird but Scadrial just comes alive for me in a way that Roshar never quite achieves.

I mean if it's harmless jokes then whatever. Friends take shots at each other all the time and a married couple is hopefully friends.

Yeah I've known a few older couples who were absolutely brutal to each other, but were still ride-or-die with their partners. Of course there's also people whose jokes are mean spirited resentment, and tons of cases in-between.

"Wife bad" may be a bit stale to modern comedy palates but i don't see any problem with it intrinsically.

Kim_Seong-a

Meh. If someone is young enough to be bringing their parent to a job interview, it's probably a low enough level job that the interview process is entirely bullshit. Show up on time, do what you're asked. Almost zero consequence which applicants you ultimately choose for something like that, so acting like a young job seeker bringing their parent is some sort of red flag is idiotic.

simple fact is that interviewing is a unique skill that 99% of the time has fuck all to do with what you're being hired for. Some people can ace interviews and then turn into nightmare employees. Some people have anxiety or aren't good at selling themselves but are plenty competent. Most of the time it's just a formal drudgery that doesn't matter because they're gonna quit in a year anyway.

Guaranteed the main reason hirers are opposed is because this is mostly happening with young people at entry level jobs where exploitation is much more rampant, and they don't want anyone able to call them out on their bullshit.

So is just *any* project based on the most popular version of a thing "worthless nostalgia pandering"?

Should developers be forced to make games about something they don't care about just because the parent company does a poor job with diversifying brand representation?

Paramount could license the other versions of TMNT out and commission games for them at any time. They just don't.

And unlike power Rangers, the most current iteration of the turtles almost always seems to get healthy amounts of marketing and push.

It's also worth noting that the devs of Shredder's Revenge have mentioned that they themselves are specifically fans of the 80s toon, and it really shows when you pay attention to how much care and detail went into representing that era.

Also, the 2012 series did get its own games too lol. AFAIK Rise just wasn't very popular with the target demo which is why it got canceled.

I never read much Emily Dickinson, but I've heard a bit about her private life and it sounds sad, but also weirdly relatable. Shame she didn't want anyone reading her writing.

I just finished "Heaven" by Mieko Kawakami. Really short at only about 150 pages. I didn't like it as much as "All the Lovers in the Night" but it was still quite good, though the subject matter made me actively angry to read at times (high school bullying), so it was difficult to finish just because my heart started beating faster as I was reading some of the passages. Author pulled no punches in describing the abuse, or the contemptible lack of empathy or self-reflection of the abusers. No romanticizing the bullies with tragic backstories or attempts to offer redemption. Just pure, realistic teenage sadism.

NAVIGATING THE WORLD Now you can get lost in the game, not in the world! A brand-new world map and challenges tracker helps you know where you are and what needs to be done. Hooray!

This sounds like they're just going to add some markers to show you where to go lol.

The level design really was all over the place. The first level was...okay. Technically just a big circle but was pretty easy to find your way around once you realized what they were doing.

The snow and casino levels were just giant empty chasms of nothing. Like Sonic Adventure's Casinopolis stage had better content density (and more fun things to do) than YL's casino and that was like 20 years old at the time lol.

The swamp was pretty decent i think. And the space level too. But I haven't played the game since release so idk.

But overall they just did a very poor job with the environment and setting out landmarks or intuitive paths for the player.

Bandai had some digimon games on the Wonder Swan where you play as a new character called Ryo, which were technically canon to the Adventure but were so inconsequential that you didn't need to know anything about them.

Ryo ends up doing some dimension hopping in the games and ends up becoming a character in Tamers. But he's so tacked on that you wouldn't even know he was a crossover character unless somebody told you lol

Got like an hour in and it's fun. Grid-based battles, dice rolling skill checks, content-dense maps to explore, interesting enough story so far. Apparently has the endorsement of Sven from Larian Studios. >_>

The plot twist at the end came out of nowhere for me and I almost broke down. Like I had absolutely no reason to expect that to happen and it just hit me like a truck.

The stinger with Godzilla's beating heart felt like it aped a little too much from GMK and didn't really fit tonally with the rest of the film imo. Kinda funny since both this movie and that deal with a Godzilla directly linked to WW2 and have the monster defeated by a dad blowing it up from the inside. :P

My biggest complaint with Luke's portrayal is that he had the most fascinating character arc of anyone in those movies and we get to see almost none of it at all.

I don't really hate the way Luke was portrayed, moreso that we couldn't see his journey to get there while being subjected to the comparatively boring Rose/Finn/Poe plot. (Well, that and the stupid life-draining skype call. I don't care that "it's canon in some niche info book from 20 years ago", the actual film gave only the slightest nod to the potential dangers of that communication, and Luke himself looked less strained actively killing himself than he did trying to pull a lightsaber out of some snow >_>)

Well one thing I notice is that you've got a lot of classics and (seemingly dry) informational texts there. With those, yeah, I can't really marathon them. I've been plodding along Republic of Pirates for a few months, absolutely fascinating subject matter but I can only focus on it for about a chapter before I need a break.

With more modern fiction I find it a lot easier to let myself get wrapped up in the story and blow through chunks of the book at a time, usually just bouncing around other books when I hit a lull in my "main" project.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

lol, I didn't even notice that little bit of synchronicity. Funny how life comes together like that. >_> And yeah I agree. Especially in Dorian Gray it feels like there's a whole world the character is involved in that would be fascinating to read about, but which Wilde was severely inhibited in exploring.

Juhanor posted...
I think Importance of Being Earnest might have been my favorite, maybe The Selfish Giant.

Oh Earnest was Wilde? I knew it as a name of a famous play but I didn't know the author. I'm silly but whenever I think of that play I associate it with the Raimi Spider-Man movies. Gonna have to find a way to read/watch it sometime soon. I'm always a bit lost with plays because reading it written down feels like I'm missing something in not seeing it performed, but actual stage productions are hard to find anywhere in a convenient format and movie adaptations usually take more liberties than I'd be comfortable with if I wanted an authentic experience. >_>

Finished Picture of Dorian Gray. Wilde is one of those names that I keep running into so I figured I should read it. Plus I was curious since it caused a bit of a moral outrage and had to be censored when it was originally published.

Fun, interesting, but a bit rough to get through since almost everyone is a vapid jackass. Should've cut less of the gay painter and more of the insipid ramblings of Lord Henry. Or at least that one slog of a chapter that was basically Just Gray's hedonistic shopping list.

Actually watching Gray's degradation into an irredeemable piece of shit was really interesting whenever it was the focus and I ended up disappointed that so much of the novel was dedicated to rich people gossiping over dinner tables. >_>
