It's a lot better for VAs that are in a union.

Many VAs aren't in a union, often because many companies boycott unions and they're not financially stable or famous enough to turn down random roles. So yeah, VAs still getting fucked over.

This is going to sound unfair, but I straight-up won't believe whatever excuse Nintendo/Platinum comes up with. Companies lie all the time because they receive zero repercussions and have fans to defend them. Hellena Taylor has much less reason to lie because going after a big company like this will torpedo her career.

Voice actors get fucked over on the regular, so I'm not too happy with this

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like a lot of JRPG's rarely if ever nail the final section.

Edit: By that I mean it's rarely ever the best part of the game, and usually leans towards not being fun.

I don't disagree, but I also think most media in general struggles to end well, and that as far as video games go, western games are way worse about it than eastern games are.

The only part of Beseria's third act I didn't like was the final boss and ending cutscene, and the credits still got to me.

The public perception of Vesperia over time has been interesting to watch. People seemed to really like it until they got the chance to play it again.

That's true. I desperately want Skies of Arcadia HD for PC just so I can download the inevitable Very Low Encounter mod. Literally the only change I need.

This is a heretical thing to say on GameFAQs, but older JRPGs are hard to go back to, period. They're often missing important quality of life improvements and have janky production values.

Having unique maps that occur based on unit death is a cool idea - for a game built around it. With Fire Emblem, though, unit deaths feel so awful that most people are never going to see those maps.

All the people saying that the Mario voice couldn't work for a full-length feature reminds me of how Disney executives wanted Steve Martin to be the voice of Goofy in A Goofy Movie because they assumed that hearing the traditional voice for over an hour would drive people bonkers, but in the end Bill Farmer turns out to absolutely kill it and manage to do the silly Goofy voice and still make it work in dramatic, more emotional scenes:

I believe Charles Martinet could pull it off too. He's a very talented VA. He was Paarthurnax in Skyrim for God's sakes.

This is a great example, especially because it reminds me of how excellent A Goofy Movie is.

This too. Also (and maybe this is unfair as ad reads all sound fake) but even Chris Pratt's endorsement of the movie before the trailer was really bad acting lol

I don't think there's any evidence that Martinet can't do a more serious voice, he just hasn't had to in any of the games for obvious reasons. Maybe he actually can't, but I also seriously doubt that Illumination bothered to find out either way. 99% chance they just booked they biggest stars they could find and didn't consider Martinet for the role at all.

I would absolutely take all of these examples of full dialogue Martinet (and the ProZD impression) over Chris Pratt. They sound completely fine.

Disagree honestly. I think it would've been good as long as the voice direction was too.

I think it's fair to have colored perceptions for a character as iconic as Mario who has had one voice for like 30 years.

Plus, things can be different and still work. I think Charlie Day's Luigi will be good. In this instance Chris Pratt as Mario just sounded eeeeh.

Honestly, that looked pretty good outside of Chris Pratt's voice acting.

I'm at the point where I want the Dems to time things for midterms. I'll accept a delay on policy if it keeps the GOP out of power.
