Like the car I totaled this year literally net me a bigger payout than how much I purchased it for. Understandably this is a short-notice situation that's hard to navigate. I ended up with a brand new Civic with a ~$4.5k mark up. Relatively speaking it was a win because my brother had one and I had this on my radar to possibly have one of my own. Other family situations actually made this pan to be a bigger win because I actually needed a car like this in retrospect. I managed to get it because I happened to step into the dealer right when they had an unclaimed allocation incoming. Literally total one car one day, and then throw down for the next one the day after. The problem is, my father-in-law (who's the primary driver) now sucks at judging "space" in general. So he has problems parking into spots. This is how he wrecked the Camry- he misjuged the turn radius, and smashed right into another car. Insurance company considered the Camry wrecked, and just gave him a check for like $3k.He can't drive. Period. You don't give a pass for him just doing a portion of it right. He makes another mistake, it could be more than just car damage.
