It's not that what AOC is saying is equal to what we know the Patriot act is NOW, it's that what she's saying is the exact same kind of logic and arguments used to justify drafting it in the first place. "The government needs to do something about social media to protect its citizens" will be the setup, and the leak a decade from now when we realize how much we gave up and how badly its being abused will be the punchline.

I'm glad AOC has spoken up against excessive regulation against tech, but that means trying to put actual blame (even "partial") on Zuckerberg is a momentary lapse of sanity, a compromise in integrity for easy twitter likes, a fundamental misunderstanding of her own position, or some combination of them all.

Do you actually disagree with her take that social media has contributed to the conspiracy theory nonsense that led to the attack on the Capitol? Or is "criticizing Mark Zuckerberg leads to the Patriot Act" just the slippery slope you're willing to die on to avoid agreeing with AOC? You'll note that she never calls for government action here; is any criticism of how FB has handled extremism out of bounds?
