I work alongside management in a a specialized position. My main focus will be recruiting, training and retaining volunteers for the department which will be used for the forestry and open space environment and as well the large community events that the department hosts.

From what I remember of your past work topics, a lot of that sounds like stuff you'd already been doing on a lower scale. So sounds like a good fit.

You have an excellent memory! Yup, Ive been doing this type of work for about 8 years now. Im essentially going from being responsible for the events and property of one facility, to now an entire department. Luckily Ive worked with some huge events in the past so I feel pretty comfortable with the goals this new job has for me.

When you say mid level, do you mean you'll be some sort of management?

The dinner went well. Some of the team said certain things that indicated to me they havent been out to dinner with anyone else.

I also found out that the meet and greet with the director will also include the hiring manager who has been the constant throughout all of this and her boss and Im fairly sure these are the people who would need to be involved to making an offer... so here is to hoping..

Sounds like these people have no idea what the fuck they're doing, and don't mind wasting money while they're at it. You've already interviewed way more than you should need to for what I'm guessing is only a mid to senior level position based on the people you described talking to.

Realistically, tbh, the dinner is probably less of a waste of money than having people conduct interviews on company time, depending on what they make. If somebody makes $60k, then an hour of their time is an almost $30 dinner.

So youre thinking they arent doing this again and again?

This past month I have been interviewing for a job thats a step up from my current position in the city and now Im at a situation I havent encountered before. Ill give you a time frame first.

March 6th was the first interview with 5 people. The hiring manager and some people of the team I would work with. Lasted for about an hour.

March 9th they let me know they want me back for the second round and that they will confirm a date with me later

March 19th they inform me that March 23rd will be the next interview

March 23rd I meet with the hiring manager and her boss and discuss my background for about 10 minutes, we then go into a conference room with about 9 other people who make up a large portion of the remainder of the team. They each asks me a question and this last about half an hour. The hiring manager informs me that they will be aiming to make a decision by the 28th.

Yesterday I get an email from the hiring manager saying she wanted to touch base and let me know they need just a little more time making a decision.

Yesterday I got an email asking if I could call her before the end of the work day. She informs me that the team wants me to go out to dinner with them on Tuesday at 6:00 pm for food and drinks. Then, on Thursday I will be meeting with the director of the department one on one for a 30 minute meet and greet. She said not to worry about bringing my resume and not to worry about being ready for interview style questions and its just a meet and greet.

What do you all make of it? How much completion do you think I have left at this point?

Yeah, pretty much, but I was still paranoid. I was just 1) echoing that the government is always slow and 2) saying that your boss's boss's boss probably had to okay your hire... and state that as a government worker, I've never seen anyone hold a dinner for a new hire.

Youre freaking telling me. This wait time has been torture. Thats government for you though.

Story of my life. In August, when I was first told that I'd be getting a reworked position with a raise and more hours like I'd wanted... for eight months at that point.

I'm a month away from finally starting the damn job. So it'll have been nearly a year and a half since I requested it to the point that I finally start it. Half of that will have been going through the "mandatory competitive hiring process."

But yeah, the dinner is to celebrate their new team member, as an integration tactic. The boss's boss's boss likely just wants to meet you, either because of your job function or because s/he had to sign off on your hiring (as was the case with me). There's no way they'd have you do all of that if you weren't in. They certainly don't do that where I work - dinner celebrations are just for retirements!

Just from experience, don't trust this.

I was interviewing for a job once, had just completed the second round and the interviewer goes "oh hey, would you like to meet the CEO?" (Small company, under 100 employees so meeting the CEO wasn't a big deal). I say sure, why not.

We sit down and the interviewer leaves, dude grills me for 30 minutes on stuff way over the level of the position I was applying for.

Not trying to freak you out, just saying be ready for anything.

Will keep in mind! Thanks Shad.

All I can remember was that there was a boy outside of his home at what I think was a birthday party. Right next to the boy there is this bright white humanoid looking being that people thought was a ghost. If you actually look at the picture and analyze it, the bright white thing has the exact same silhouette as the kid so it's obviously just some camera trickery.
