Someone who says they ran away from the mass shooting at the Chiefs parade on Wednesday says they saw someone else running: a GOP governor who frequently touts his support for firearms.

Earlier on Wednesday, between eight and 10 people were shot near the Chiefs Super Bowl parade, and two armed suspects were then placed under arrest, according to Kansas City police, the New York Post and the Associated Press. Chaos erupted.

In that chaos, one man reported seeing Missouri governor Mike Parson running scared.

Patrick Quaife, identified on his social media as a University of Kansas alum, posted his observations after escaping the gunfire.

"I just ran away from a mass shooting at the Chiefs parade where I saw the Missouri governor (the gun lover below) running scared for his life next to me with an army of officers protecting him," Quaife wrote, including a photo of the governor supporting "responsible, law-abiding gun owners."

"I am so sick of these NRA funded politicians," Quaife added along with a support for gun control.

It's finally dawned on the long-forgotten Ron DeSantis that his ridiculous "woke" campaign was as big a failure as his presidential run. In fact, his priggish posturing was most likely the cause of his humiliating downfall. Even MAGA is over him.

And so, too little too late, the short-sighted governor has now decided to turn against the very same army of book-banning activists he himself whipped up, fining them if they lodge too many complaints. And the frustrated Florida man expressed, well, frustration today while supporting a House bill that will charge a $100 processing fee to "bad-faith" book objectors who do not have children in school and who have "unsuccessfully objected to five materials during the calendar year."

"If you have a kid in school, okay. But if you're somebody who doesn't have a kid in school and you're gonna object to 100 books, no! I don't think that's appropriate," he said (see video below, posted by Carlos Guillermo Smith).

Oops, that was a detail he forgot to mention in 2022 when, under his dictatorship, Florida schools banned approximately 300 books from its libraries, including Shakespeare titles, children's literary works such as the sweet and innocent Christian the Hugging Lion, and Toni Morrison's Beloved, a Pulitzer Prize winner about a runaway slave.

This is literally one of the main things that I and many others complained about all throughout 2021-22 when right-wing activists, led by Moms for Liberty, Libs of TikTok, and others who had no children in the public school systems, were besieging schools and school board meetings, causing absolute chaos. Katie Porter is going to war with people who literally manufacture digital currency.

The Democratic Senate candidates rivals are a clique of crypto financiers, organized under the super PAC called Fairshake. And theyre spending millions trying to sandbag Porter and keep her (and her little whiteboard) out of the November runoff against fellow Rep. Adam Schiff.

Fairshakes new TV ad campaign predicted with Nostradamus-like precision by Playbook PM on Monday tries to portray the Orange County congressmember as a corporate crusader, but one who has accepted campaign contributions from powerful industry executives.

Katie Porter says one thing and does another, the group said in a statement.

Porter used Fairshakes first ad to, what else, raise money!

She called the ad flat-out-false and misleading.

Special interests and their ultra-wealthy backers have made crystal clear which candidate they prefer, Porter wrote in the fundraising text.

Her allies at the Progressive Change Campaign Committee also weighed in on Porters behalf: These dishonest attack ads from Big Crypto demonstrate how far billionaire special interests are willing to go to prevent a pro-consumer champion like Katie Porter from becoming senator.

Porter, a protege of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (were going to spare you restating who her daughter is named after!), has been outspoken about regulating the industry.

Fairshake is made up of several wealthy investors and crypto major players who have grown on the national scene after Sam Bankman-Frieds once-emergent apparatus imploded.

The group includes Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase, Ripple Labs, Ron Conway and Blockchain Capital. The super PAC has amassed tens of millions of dollars and is spending some of it on House races in addition to Californias Senate race.

Its the first outside group thats not affiliated with any of the candidates, and the spending barrage comes just as Schiff and his own super PAC are airing TV ads trying to power longshot Republican Steve Garvey into the top two in the March 5 election.

All the spending is tying up Porters hands. Shes running positive ads of her own, but she cant stay close with her counter-programming, let alone keep up with the carpet-bombing.

The techniques Microsoft observed, in collaboration with its partner OpenAI, represent an emerging threat and were neither particularly novel or unique, the Redmond, Washington, company said in a blog post.

But the blog does offer insight into how U.S. geopolitical rivals have been using large-language models to expand their ability to more effectively breach networks and conduct influence operations.

Microsoft said the attacks detected all involved large-language models the partners own and said it was important to expose them publicly even if they were early-stage, incremental moves.

Cybersecurity firms have long used machine-learning on defense, principally to detect anomalous behavior in networks. But criminals and offensive hackers use it as well, and the introduction of large-language models led by OpenAIs ChatGPT upped that game of cat-and-mouse.

Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in OpenAI, and Wednesdays announcement coincided with its release of a report noting that generative AI is expected to enhance malicious social engineering, leading to more sophisticated deepfakes and voice cloning . A threat to democracy in a year where over 50 countries will conduct elections, magnifying disinformation and already occurring.

Generative AI is going to be used to further compromise America's democracy.

George Soros investment firm is expected to become the largest shareholder of Audacy, the bankrupt owner of WEEI and other Boston radio stations.

Soros Fund Management, founded by the billionaire backer of Democratic politicians and causes, now has more than $414 million of Audacys debt, according to a court filing this week.

The Soros investment firm appeared on a list of Audacys lenders in the filing out of U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. Bloomberg was the first to report on Soros Fund Management and Audacy.

Soros Fund Management, a New York City-based investment manager for certain funds and accounts, has $279.8 million in term loans and $135 million in revolving credit.

A mother has asked that jurors are not told of claims she had sex with her pet pit bull shortly before she allegedly hanged her children. Lisa Snyder, 37, said sharing details of her alleged bestiality will impermissibly inflame the passions of, and unfairly prejudice the jury, according to newly-filed court papers.

Snyder, from Berks County in Pennsylvania, plans to mount an insanity defense over claims she murdered son Conner, 8, and daughter Brinley, 4, at their home in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in September 2019.

The youngsters were found hanged from a dog leash, with two wooden dining room chairs found knocked over nearby. Snyder called for help, and later said she was unable to get them down from where they were hanging because she was suffering from extreme anxiety.

Both youngsters were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they died after being taken off life support three days later.

Court papers filed on Tuesday, and seen by The Morning Call on Thursday, also include a request from Snyders lawyers request jurors not to show the alleged killer moms Google search history in the weeks leading up to the childrens deaths.

They say that the lewd, lascivious and taboo nature of Snyders searches would further taint potential jurors.

She is accused of searching suicide, drug overdoses, death by hanging and how to kill someone. Snyder is also said to have bought the dog leash she is accused of hanging her children with using her phone.

Snyders lawyers have further argued that investigators have been unable to prove the internet activity was carried out by the mom.

A judge will rule on whether to accept motions made by Snyders lawyers at a later date.

Evidence of her alleged sexual abuse of a dog was uncovered when detectives searched her phone after she was arrested on suspicion of killing her children. The mom reportedly sent extremely graphic details of the encounter to a Facebook friend.

The alleged killer previously blamed Conner for hanging his sister, then himself, after claiming her son had been bullied at school, and that he did not want to die alone.

Teachers said he was a happy and well-adjusted child, and that there was no evidence he was being picked-on.

Snyder is said to have suffered a chronic history of severe mental disorders including severe depression with psychosis, anxiety disorder, affective disorder and post-partum depression beginning when she was just 16.

Snyder reportedly battled severe depressive disorder around the time of her childrens deaths. Her lawyers say she was suicidal, and that she falsely perceived others were harming Conner and Brinley.

The alleged murderer denies killing her children, and sexual intercourse with a dog. She is being held in jail without bond, and is due back in court on February 12.

Abused San Pablo pit bull finds new home

SAN PABLO, Calif. - A Bay Area dog that was abused by its owner will start a new life this week in Southern California.

Turbo was taken away from his owner in San Pablo in January, after neighbors at the Montoya Garden Apartments called Contra Costa Animal Services, saying they heard the dog yelping in pain.

One neighbor took graphic video of Turbo being beaten by his owner on a balcony.

Animal services Lt. Manuel Morales said Turbo's attitude is "pretty incredible," considering what he went through.

After a month of veterinary care, Turbo has gained seven pounds, and it's now time to move him from a rescue home to a permanent home further south where he can start a new life.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Wisconsins GOP-controlled Legislature on Tuesday passed legislative maps that were proposed by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers a move designed to prevent the liberal-controlled state Supreme Court from implementing maps that might be even worse for Republicans.

Republicans conceded defeat, while Democrats said they were afraid of being tricked.

It pains me to say it, but Gov. Evers gets a huge win today, Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said, adding that under the new maps, the Legislature will be up for grabs.

The Assembly and Senate passed the bill in quick succession Tuesday, sending it to Evers. Last week, he promised to sign his maps into law if the Legislature passed them with no changes. Republicans did tweak the language to ensure the new maps dont take effect until November, but its unclear if thats a dealbreaker for the governor. He did not return a message seeking comment Tuesday. His spokesperson, Britt Cudaback, tweeted after the votes that Evers position has not changed. She did not elaborate.

The political stakes are huge in the presidential battleground state, where Republicans have had a firm grip on the Legislature since 2011 even as Democrats have won statewide elections, including for governor in 2018 and 2022.

Democrats said that the Wisconsin Supreme Court should be allowed to implement the maps. Republicans said that voting for Evers maps, rather than waiting for the state Supreme Court to install maps that might be even better for Democrats, was their last best remaining option.

Republicans were not stuck between a rock and hard place, Republican state Sen. Van Wanggaard said in a statement. It was a matter of choosing to be stabbed, shot, poisoned or led to the guillotine. We chose to be stabbed, so we can live to fight another day.
