Both years have pretty fair match order of match pics. I would give 2001 a slight advantage in that, because Twisted Metal and Command & Conquer aren't all that strong there . MGS2 has still been snubbed....

So... I predicted 1998 with 70%. I would have predicted higher if it wasn't for that sleeping pill I took. I wanted to go and change my prediction, but I forgot to make the change the next day... then again, I may not have adjusted it higher after seeing everyone predict such a low percentage. I'm really surprised how low everyone went. In my opinion, 1998 will beat the runner-up with 60%, maybe even as high as 65%.

And, I don't think Chrono Trigger will be much better this round if it's not the first game listed. Everyone's going to want to knock on 1987, but I still say it's pretty strong! ...unless 1995 gets creamed.

...so Majora has kept even with Mario 64 over the course of SIX updates now. The match is far from over (contrary to how I felt about 1995/1987 an hour in).

Yeah, I think it's close between them. Just like 1997's percentage isn't a whole lot higher than 2001's! Hence, a very even-looking match between '97 and '01.

I dunno about 1997 being the obvious second strongest year, but.... 2001 vs. 1997 looks intriguing at this point. 2001 had the stronger opponent in 2008 as opposed to 2007, but 1997 is probably going to end up with the higher percentage.

And hey, 2000 basically stalled 1996 over the course of four updates.

I think FF7 is demonstrating the power of anchors in this match. Take out FF7 out... and we practically have a 50/50 match. Mario Galaxy and (Bioshock, not Portal) are right around SotN and Goldeneye, strength-wise. (even though I personally think SotN and Goldeneye are much more significant)

...I still don't think adding all the X-Stat values together is the way to look at this. Theoretically, sure, 2000 would be better off and I guess people who picked 2000 can solace themselves in thinking it'd have won with the right setup, but anyone who picked 2000 knew it NEEDED the right setup to win and that wasn't guaranteed.

I can't help but wonder if 1997 will disappoint today. It looked pretty good at 77% on 1999, but the problem is that 1999 has practically nothing outside of FF8, which got SFFed... we'll see what happens.

I kinda disagree about '96 not having depth. Resident Evil is a pretty good game to have next to Mario 64. And Crash Bandicoot, while not popular, is pretty iconic. That said, I'm expecting 2000 to win with 55-60%.

I am puzzled how polarized predictions were for 1995/1987. Everyone who picked '95 thought it would be a blowout. And then like five people had '87 winning.

1995 has extended it lead in two updates. I can't see 1987 quite pulling this off, but we may be in for a 52/48 match. At least my 1987 pick was respectable. Furthermore, 1985 isn't quite the joke most people thought it was.

This performance from 1995 would suggest 1987 gets around 87% on 1986, something that I don't see being possible. So I guess there might be some kind of synergistic effect going on here with 1987's depth (despite being terribly weak 1v1 vs. CT) against a year which has very little depth beyond Chrono Trigger.

1987 would easily get 87% on 1986. Or even higher, considering generational SFF, however little it might be.

Interesting how high people are going with 2001 predictions. If 1994 is even remotely close to 2001, and assuming 2008 is near 2004's level, 2001 shouldn't, well, do THAT well.... but time will tell.

I would be quite surprised at 1987 beating 1995, but not the most shocked I've ever been. However, if round 1 pics get re-used, that would be the best thing possible for 1987's chances. Any pic changes would more than likely benefit CT (er, I mean, 1995) and more than likely hurt 1987, relative to the previous round.
