I read between the lines with abacus and corrik and was trying to get ahead of it so he could feel comfortable voting without outing, and without going out of my way to say corrik always lies and draw more attention to abacus

Corrik is a liar. As town, as scum, as neutral it doesn't matter. Especially early. I don't expect him to answer *anything* truthfully before day 3. I assure you that no one who has played with him before believed that cop claim. Corrik is the one exception to the "lynch all liars" rule.

Abacus's conditional answer to whether or not he had thoughts so far would imply that a specific answer to this question would confirm his thoughts. Given that the answer to the question was "yes, there can be multiple people with the same role" and then he said "All right, well then I have no thoughts!", it means that he WOULD have had a lead if roles were unique.

Thus, he would have had to be talking about the only player who had claimed a role at that point (Corrik). And (for one more step) the natural implication of that would be that Abacus is himself a TOWN Cop, which would directly prove Corrik's claim false if roles were unique. There could, of course, be more than one Cop, but I think that invites enough suspicion for me to vote up Corrik.

Please correct me if parts of this deduction are wrong, Abacus. Or provide what your thought process was when you posted that.

Honestly, I don't like the way that Sceptile is responding. It feels to me as though he's being deliberately obtuse in most of his interactions. I'm not ready to claim that he's scum yet as I'd like to hear more, but I want to throw out there that I dislike the way he has played thus far. I can go into more depth on this point if I need to.

And as a side question: does anyone in this game use pronouns other than he? I want to be accurate in referring to each player.

one thing it might be interesting to think about is that all 3 of the biggest Jojo villains from parts 1-5 (Dio, Yoshikage Kira, Diavolo) have some form of time manipulation powers and I wonder if that would be reflected in Mafia's powers somehow. not sure if that particular flavor could easily be fit into this style of mafia game or not, though.

So scum team gets a night kill and GFaqs meta typically gives them a single use extra kill they can use at night. This isn't a hard rule of course but I don't think I've personally played a game here yet where scum didn't have an extra kill (but to be fair I don't play here a lot)

specifics aren't important here. just know there could or could not be an individual who is aligned only with themselves and is working toward their own win condition. and if they exist they probably have unique powers to give them a fair shot as a one person team

17 players I'd expect probably a 4 man scum team, probably 1 neutral of some stripe, and 12 town with maybe 5 town power and 7 vanilla. And GFaqs Mafia typically does not use neutral roles like Survivor, they simply are not meta here. I'd expect the vanilla to be a witch or something that wins with scum but isn't scum.

Scum team almost always has a single shot extra kill and usually some kind of Strongman modifier in somewhere.

Town will have maybe 2 invests, a Jack Of All Trades, some stripe of protective and some stripe of supportive. Depending on the composition of the other roles the support might be a role blocker if the other town power roles are not super strong. If they are then the support will be something a bit weaker

Thanks, this is very helpful. Could you clarify what "single shot extra kill" means more precisely? I'm combing the mafiascum wiki at the moment to translate my knowledge to this game.

Also: an open question to anyone who can answer for a newbie like me. Could anyone give me a quick rundown on maybe the average role composition of a 17 person game? # of mafia, # of vanilla players, typical roles present in most games? I understand that the game admin has the discretion to vary all of these things to his liking (or according to the flavor), but even just a ballpark estimation would be good enough for me just to have an idea of what I'm working with here.

Hi, we're gonna do a bit of mafia speed dating

What's your history, experience? What type of role do you like to play? How would you describe your style?

Hi! No experience with forum mafia. Mild experience with the in-person mafia game (which I don't think particularly translates to this style), and significant experience with games like Town of Salem and One Night Ultimate Werewolf, which outside of the deduction skills I don't anticipate will translate much.

I typically prefer to play investigation roles (or any kind of role that gives you information about other player's roles) to have as much "hard evidence" rather than relying on too much intuition or soft reads.

My style is completely dependent on how well I know the other players in the game. In a game like Werewolf or in-person mafia where I know most or all of the other players, I will often play a hard aggro style and press for information using information I already know about the other players' playstyles. In this scenario, where I basically don't know anything about the other players or their playstyles, I intend to sit back a little more and observe how the other players are choosing to play before jumping into things. It's tough to fully jump all the way in when other players have a history together and have a basic understanding of some of the other player's playstyles.

If you address me directly, I will answer though.

I watched Monster for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely an incredible experience. Nina and Dr. Tenma have such rich and compelling moral and emotional journeys from start to finish and even the side characters are fleshed out better than in many other manga/anime

season 4 is actually great. the George Michael / Michael storyline, the GOB forget-me-nots storyline and the Mexico storyline are fantastic along with the ridiculous Fantastic Four play.

season 5 is just unbelievably mediocre though. most of the characters fall flat and the Lindsay scenes on green screen are noticeably awful

Its more like satire or comedy than it is a serious story. The point is that its funny to watch this unassuming and nondescript character one-shot these increasingly elaborate villains while the supposed heroes of the world continuously struggle (and also have no idea that Saitama exists and is 1 shotting everything)

Well the Sicilian would probably be the best performer by most metrics, but the differences are so small among a few of the top choices it's more about playstyle than anything I think, at least at everything below the top level. (Not the same, but the reason I play 1. d4 as white despite the fact that I consider 1. e4 the "better" opening is because I think closed positional play suits my playstyle better than openings like the Sicilian or some 1. e4 e5 lines)

Grandmasters do overwhelmingly play 1...e5 or 1...c5 (the Sicilian) I think, but even in top classical matches you'll still see stuff like 1...c6, 1...e6, and a few others on occasion.

The NM who runs my local club advised me to learn d4 openings first as e4 has so many common lines that you could find yourself running into Black's pet line more easily. Also, playing against c5 and e5 are radically different, whereas I feel that d4 openings will often result in more familiar positions regardless of Black's response.

oh Im mistaken, there is no white H pawn in this position. thats much better. i still think the queen and rook can mow over all of blacks pawns but in this case i think you ought to be playing for ideas like Rc1 and trying to push the C and B pawns up then

Hello everyone! Ive played chess casually for years and joined a club recently. Im rated 1400 OTB with a 1600 blitz rating online. mostly trying to focus on calculating lines better and learning new openings to improve.

As for this queen rook vs two rook game, i think its completely lost for black. Ba2 cannot win the knight on b1 because it will leave the bishop hanging, unless you move the H rook to A1. And if you do that, white plays Rh6, Rxh7 And has a passed h-pawn thats going to be very dangerous and likely impossible to stop without giving up all your pawns to the Queen

Dont forget to mention that Jedrzedczyk is a racist who accused Zhang of carrying Coronavirus! Makes the victory sting all the more

thats what depression is though. there doesnt have to be an underlying reason for you to be depressed. the chemicals in your brain are messed up and even living a perfect lifestyle cant necessarily fix that. it fucking sucks man
