The term "Pilot" comes from a "Pilot Light", or, the ignition point for something larger. It's less about "taking the show off" and more about gauging interest levels and building the foundation for what's to come.

Your analogy is a lot more whimsical though, which I like.

I'm curious to know where the pilot part of Pilot Light come from.

But not a single one of Parks' first six episodes is better than B/B-. Bob's Burgers' pilot was a B-/C+. Most pilots are in the B range, which is fine. The list of A or A- caliber pilots is exceptionally small

This is the problem with people (and with TV)

Pilots are rarely indicative of how great a series can be. Pilots are almost always average at best. People are rarely patient enough to give shows time to come into their own, find their footing. If people didn't give Parks & Rec more than 6 episodes then where would it be?


No. You are completely ass-backwards here Cokes.

The reason it's called a Pilot is because it takes the show off. If the Pilot is of poor quality, then that's a problem with the show, not the people watching it. Producers know that their pilots have to be damn good to keep people watching - if they make a bad pilot, then they are bad producers, dishing out a bad product.

Parks and Rec didn't have the greatest pilot, but it wasn't terrible, and episode 2 of it was great. Lost had an amazing pilot.

I'd say boring and overpowered, but that is EXACTLY why I'm looking forward to 'Man of Steel'.

Christopher Nolan did wonders with Batman by just taking advantage of the dark side of Batman. Great movies, but easy subject matter. I think it will be much more difficult to make movies as intense as the Batman ones using Superman as the subject.

Yeah, rushing Mercs is core when playing against Veigar. A lot of people don't understand how easy it is to avoid getting killed by him if you go Mercs instead of Sorc. The MR + Tenacity is good enough that he'll be wasting mana on a cage + Q that won't hurt as bad, and he won't be using the Q to farm up AP if he goes to hit.

Generally, if you walk out of the stun/dark matter, then all his cooldowns will be down, and you'll be able to poke him with everything you have, and win the trade.

If you do this before he gets his DFG, you win the lane.

Also, keep in mind that champs such as Talon and Ryze work well as counters to Veigar, due to lack of AP.
