See, and to this day, I still thought that the sexual favors thing was supposedly a lie. It shows how quickly all the information gets distored or just straight up invented or ignored.

Really depends. Too many devs use open world/sandbox as an excuse for not coming up with enough things and just hoping the player either makes their own fun or that the player will find it similar enough to "Better Open World Game" that they'll stick with it.

I'll never understand WotC. They removed line of sight rules for physical projectiles, so now I can shoot my bow from behind a 4-man allied stack of PCs, but I still have to account for magic AoEs? You're telling me a level 2 Ranger has Legolas-tier archery skills that allows me to bend an arrow around 20ft of allied space without hitting any of them and then smacking my target well enough to do damage? Or that the whole party leaned to one side which allowed me to get a clean shot? 5e got a lot right, it also got a lot wrong, it's too difficult to get my group to play 3.5 though as they can barely recall how damage rolls work without three reminders each session.

I feel like Gen X and millenials are more similar than they think. They both care and complain too much, except Gen X does it under the guise that they REALLY don't care, despite their endless ennui and millenials care too much that they wrap around to REALLY not caring because they equate complaining to accomplishing anything.

Of course, I am taking the absolute worst assumptions and stereotypes here, I know that someone could never speak for an entire generation with accuracy or without bias. I get that many are not like that, but at the same time, many are indeed like that.

I'm going to be honest, we had a mandatory personal finance class in New Jersey as far back as 1994, and it did absolutely nothing. Everyone did the bare minimum of effort and then immediately forget everything they tried to teach about 20 minutes after the test. It was about as useless as our high school sex ed class was.

Having the class isn't as important as whether or not the class actually teaches anything worthwhile, and if the students will actually engage with it properly (they won't). Someone needs to come up with lesson plans that actually encourage students to internalize the lessons - and make sure the lessons are applicable and worthwhile in the first place.

The entire issue is that schools are designed to teach behaviors, not knowledge. "Ah, the bell controls your time, ah, the authority figure supports the bell. Were you actually enjoying learning this subject? Too bad, there goes the bell, onto the next class, hurry hurry, now. Also, you have five minutes if you needed to use the restroom, if it takes any longer than that, you're in trouble. Can't be making future workers of the world think that they have any autonomy."

Scares me a little too, as the Deparment of Education could just spew whatever drivel they want for the cirriculum. If anything, this could just generate even "better" customers down the road. It sounds nice on paper, but what's actually be taught? Yes yes, I am cranky. But going back to be DoE, let's not act like dropping literacy rates and standardized testing have been anything good, thanks to their practices.

Travel is a lot of fun. I avoid the busy highways and go see the countryside. A lot of cool places where you can just drive for like 15 minutes at a time and not see another single soul if you get real far out there. Plenty of nice spots to pull over and enjoy the nature, I've found some good trails that way. Even just cruising around on backroads is enjoyable and you can sometimes find neat abandoned architecture or some good places to eat, etc; Of course, if you already live in a rural area, I can see how that would not be anything new or interesting.

Taking time off just to play games can have just as much value as a roadtrip, all just up to you and what you value.

While I feel for you for having to go through that, I can't imagine that eating straight up gelatin sugar is gonna make your stomach feel the greatest lol Best of luck, hope everything turns out fine in the end!

I liked "How Not to be Wrong" which is a book on mathematical concepts intersecting with plain common sense and critical thinking. Might not be as acadmic as a statistics book, but I enjoyed it.

Selling half my stuff. Physical obsession is gross, I feel better no longer being involved in FOMO with collector's editions and figures and trading card games. I also stopped binge watching flavor of the month shows. Like, everyone I know who was ranting about Cyberpunk and Stranger Things S4 stopped discussing it just DAYS after they came out. It feels nice and freeing to give more attention to things beyond FOMO-hype and materialism.

It's rigged, but anyone can still play. The only true debate in this is people discussing what is "fair" or not as it pertains to the topic.

When I see the cause of said drama and it's simple to resolve I just turn off after that fact. I get bored and would rather just move on. Life is to short to be having drama over small things. I have this mentality mostly because I watched my older sister die of cancer when she was 26. I've outlived her by now but this makes me know what's more important to me. Family is the most important thing in my life for me personally. Not all family but the ones I'm closest to.

How do you know what is or is not worth caring about for you? Is it just the gut feeling you get about it? I can tell myself, "this isn't worth my time" but I still get wrapped up in it often.

I don't like modern cars. If I can't fix the issue myself, I don't want to be driving it. Too many onboard computers these days that can ONLY be worked on at a dealership, it is insane. Yes, I am aware cars have had computers and sensors in them for years, but it's gotten real bad since a little after 2010.

Do you think that people "care too much" as in, "investing too much time, energy, or effort towards something in a way that is disproportional in regards to how serious that something is?" Furthermore, do you think you might be or are one of those people? By "people," that is to mean the vast majority, not "everyone" nor any specific group.

A lot of these posts have me guessing what level of a cultural or social vacuum some of you live in. While I am equal parts concerned and envious, I don't know or think if anyone is better or worse off for it. As someone who is painfully aware of where and what all the "culture" is (speaking in terms of popularity/trends, not as in "high class" or anything), I'd often like to live a bit more in the dark and within a smaller circle. I don't suffer from FOMO or anything like that, but I do like to keep things varied, yet it gets exhausting after some time.

Why is this exactly an issue? Growing up, my parents just didn't allow me to play Mortal Kombat, and if I did, they'd ground me or whatever. They weren't one of the whackjobs writing to Congress about getting it pulled from the shelves. This is just another case of parents not wanting to parent.

That's what "getting a handle on it" means, goober. Brain chemistry is always gonna do what it's gonna want to do, but there's a lot that can be done to mitigate and redirect a good amount of it at the same time.

All they had to do was put it on console or PC. Everyone knows mobile gaming is absolute ass for anything more intensive than Plants vs Zombies or Bejeweled.
