It's a really weird aspect of religion that so many people act as if God actively looks for every reason possible to condemn you. Maybe they see themselves as in competition with God. The story I got told was the creation of the Fantastic Four came because Stan Lee was fed up and bored with secret identity plots and superheroes who the public hated. The Fantastic Four were created before Spider-Man (and appeared in the second Spider-Man story). The whole dual identity plot, and being hated by the public, was the general makeup of the Spider-Man character. It's possible that the Fantastic Four were created in response to growing tired of secret identities, but I can't imagine that Stan Lee was feeling completely over the concept. Being hated by the public was hardly a clich at the time. |
