Not too deep, just that if your initial reaction is to think "man, the poor guy got flustered and shouldn't have been DQ'd" then your immediate thought was empathizing with socially awkward people
If your reaction was more along the lines of "how could this guy seriously forget 'him' and it's good to see pronouns becoming shared" then you're empathizing with trans people

the dude being disqualified isn't showing a lack of empathy towards trans people though. he just nervously laughed.

I don't even get why they asked for pronouns tbh. I've been to plenty card tourneys (magic not pokemon) and have never been asked that. is it because some pokemon are gendered and it's relevant to the game somehow?

Fair, next. His behavior, even if he genuinely was nervous and I highly doubt that given how long this policy has been in place, caused discomfort for others including the judge.

I have several friends who are pokemon judges and they made a big Facebook post a few years back about how asking for pronouns is officially protocol.

I feel like the young side of Gen Z is absolutely entitled.

not sure about entitled but I would say 100% there is something different about gen z and impulse control.

don't know if this observation is accurate but gen z seems to hate the idea of losing or not instantly being the best. they don't seem to comprehend the road of improvement isn't instant. there's a lot of stories of kids going absolutely apeshit losing in fortnight and not having the emotional quota to control and process their anger in a constructive healthy way. kids are impulsive in general but tbh the impulsiveness of gen z seems on another level I can't relate to and scares me and makes forming social bonds (even temporary ones like coordinating a play in a video game) disturbingly difficult. even in games with "comeback" mechanics I noticed a lot of players just throw their arms in the air and start raging midgame when there's actually still a chance for success. they start trolling to mitigate that feeling of "I lost" because it hurts their ego on such a massive scale their behavior changes drastically and suddenly. the word "tilted" didn't even enter my online lexicon until around 2016 which means letting one's anger effect your play. all of a sudden everybody became tilted more and more

Competitive team based multi-player fad has also arisen at the time that Gen Z is the dominant videogame audience. Fortnite is a team based game, and the size of teams in multi-player shooters has decreased to emphasize coordination such as 12 -> 6 -> 5 from TF2 to Overwatch.

I also wondered if this is the reason too....most of my online gaming consisted of game lobbies you picked yourself, or servers or whatever. then games shifted to matchmaking and more team based where you'd have to rely on your team members. I don't know if this design facilitates to more disorganization as well. I just know I rarely had issues playing tf2 when I could just hop in a random server, I'd meet cool new people all the time, even joined a "clan" with little organized practices...the way New games are set up I just yearn of that level of organization and would instantly add somebody that I could coordinate on some Level with just because it was so extremely rare among the constant senseless toxic bickering dominating every game to the point where the disorganization of everybody just broke the game. and the level of trolling and rage was just on another level. teammates rage messaging me after games even though we won, teammates actually demonstrating they can play well but just stop playing out of some weird vindictive petty spiteful reasoning, just abundant toxic behavior on a consistent level I had never seen before

as somebody who played sc1 on old school b.net since I was 14 (maybe younger) I never noticed the extreme antisocial behavior and impulsiveness personally. I'd actually have really deep convos with people , make friendships, etc but after 2016 the good games were the outliers. if I saw people acting sane and rational I'd actually add them immediately and run private groups because of me thinking how rare it was seeing normal behavior .
trolling definitely happened back then but it wasn't as common where almost every game is the team raging at each other at the drop of a dime. like a bunch of people scared of their own shadow. I don't know how else to describe it other than a mass shift of social behavior

anecdotal but I had to stop playing online games with matchmaking and online chat when gen z wave started rolling in the scene. it was around 2016-2018 when I noticed a shift in behaviors especially in team based games. gen z players made extremely selfish decisions where it's like they almost couldn't comprehend doing something for the overall team vs themselves and their own entertainment. I had to mute chat because if I politely told them a better way to do something they would get extremely defensive and sometimes even throw games just from one comment of criticism. I hope it's gotten better but I've stopped playing those type of games since prepandemic. it was the first time where I felt like I was emotionally babysitting players. maybe it's just me getting older but I had extensive hours in starcraft 1 and tf2 and other games with team mechanics and I actually felt the shift around 2016 so I dunno
