I do like certain elements of it, but most of the story is pretty generic. My favourite would probably be Olberic's, and even that's nothing revolutionary. Still, I enjoyed the game as being a nod to an earlier era of JRPGs, and I loved the graphics and music. I'd say play through it because it's a decent game, but just don't expect a fantastic story. --- Son of a submariner! |

I enjoy the Battle of Helms Deep more than I like the Battle of Minas Tirith, seeing the ents invade Isengard is sweet, Battle of Osgiliath is cool (particularly with Sam's speech to Frodo). Admittedly it's mainly the second half of the movie I like, but I have no real issues with the first half. ....This is obviously me talking about the movies, not the books. The opening FMV where Squall and Seifer are fighting was one of the most badass things I'd seen in a game, and the whole assassination sequence near the end of disc 1 was fantastic. Nowadays I still love those scenes, and VIII still has one of my favourite soundtracks in the series. Storywise, however, it's not fantastic. None of the characters are really all that interesting, and the plot twist where The junction system was interesting, but it was easily exploited if you abused the card game to get shitloads of great spells early on. And on the flipside, if you DIDN'T abuse the card game, then manually drawing spells took forever. Got real tedious, real quick. I definitely give VIII credit for the card game. I played the shit out of that game, adored it. I even found an online version ages ago where I played for awhile. Overall I definitely don't HATE FF8, but it's definitely one of the more average games in the series imo. I put it in the 'Okay' category on my FF tierlist. --- Son of a submariner! |

| Fantastein 11/13/18 5:05:09 AM #5 | I kinda agree but at the same time I just can't like it. I had soooo much fun with the gameplay to begin with. And it lasted me a fair while where I enjoyed it. I'll definitely agree that the gameplay is the best in the series. My issue with it is that you're mostly restricted to two maps. Admittedly those maps are large, but when you're doing similar missions over and over again and seeing the same scenery over and over, that gameplay starts to get really repetitive, and I just got sick of it after a while. I realize that complaining about the scenery is a bit weird considering MGS2 took place almost entirely on the Big Shell, but at least I felt like I was progressing from place to place in that, whereas in MGS5 I was going back to the same old places over and over to get new intel, recruit specialists etc etc. I got really sick of the desert eventually, and Africa didn't really didn't do much for me either. --- Son of a submariner! |
