Arria almost lost her shit right there.

A: Okay, 1. thats better. 2. She was married? Is that going to be brought up?
K: She had a grandson in Ep 4, remember? One of the dozens of random people Ange met was one of her grandsons.
A: Oh, that's right. I tried to blot that from my memory.

Virgilia and Dlanor talk.
A: I know this is literally what it is, but its almost like two peoples OCs talking to one another. Like, you have this poor overworked maid and shes actually a *very fancy lady* (noble voice)

They mention tea again
A: I think my brain just randomly came up with Teapot Beatrice theory on its own! They keep bringing it up! I know repetition does not equal relevance, but damn it game! Also I picture Battler like this (motioning forcing something down Beatrice's throat). Like trying to get the dog to take a pill.

Beatrice mentions the court of hell and Arria was reminded of the joke about the engineer in hell and the how heaven has no lawyers. That only made me remember that we are VERY close to Dlanor oh man

I never read the Higurashi VN. Probably will one day, but that's years down the road since I have so many other VNs/games to play. K: I guess it doesnt matter anyway since Nanjos just trying to hand-wave oh, Kinzos not here because reasons!

A: You know what this first twilight reminds me of? They killed the successor, the head servant you know, kinda like in those old cultures where they would kill the kings servants and bury them with him and then they killed the cousins who would all be potential heirs, except for Battler. Rudolf and Kyrie dont look good here!

Thanks! I don't often work on projects with people, but I do enjoy it and you were a pleasure to work with as well. Sometimes by the time I notice something going on on Board 8, it's already got enough participants that I feel like there's no room for me. If you ever want to do a writing project, let me know.

My last 'writing project' (if you can call it that) was actually a book readthrough that I posted on the Books and Literature board, and that took me just shy of a year to do (to be fair, the book was like 1200 pages long). I've been thinking of doing a writing project when the next Crusader Kings 2 expansion comes out which I'll probably post on here on Board 8 if there's enough interest. Although to be fair, it'll be me doing all the writing and other people just offering names.

Outside in the rain, there was a line about Shannon and Kanon each holding an umbrella. I wonder if Sayo is actually holding two umbrellas or if its just one and Lambda thinks shes being a clever bitch sliding in that line where no one expects any shenanigans. Rudolf then tells them to stand under the eaves and it doesnt matter if they get went. I wonder if he saw this poor servant with an umbrella in both hands and was like poor thing trying to hard to be useful

Gohda mentioned using hyaluoran and I remembered using it in the ER for something, but Im sure Gohda used it for something else, so we had to look it up. Given the context he said about his knees being bad, it was probably for arthritis. Interestingly, an article mentions that hyaluoran wasnt approved for this use in America or Europe until well after 1986, but it did mention that it was used overseas, so this may not be an anachronism. I couldnt find when it was approved for use in Japan, but ehh guess it doesnt really matter anyway. This is also the world where Card Master Sakura and Higurashi both aired on TV before 1986.

A: So the plan is for Gohda and Battler to hold the ladder while Rudolf goes up and smashes the window? Is this the best idea? Maybe look up and run away the moment the shards come raining on your head.

Arria wondered if the 19th Man was on another island that was connected to the internal phone line, but not the external. She mentioned some old phone lines that went under the ocean. She wonders if this would allow him to be someone outside the island, but still make internal calls. I just nodded and let her have that idea. A moment later she admitted it was silly and she was just spewing random ideas, but hey, at least shes thinking!

A: Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the absolute HORROR of this scene? Imagine being Battler. He was so fucking tired last night that he stumbled into bed without noticing anything wrong. I imaging they were already dead when he got here. Thats how I interpret it anyway. And then the alarm clock goes off, hes probably thinking George, turn it off. Hey George, turn that shit off. And then he turns on the lights and George is fucking dead. I imagine thats the point he opens his mouth and just goes blank. When the screen cut to Eva screaming, I imagine thats the next thing Battler remembers!

A: Two thoughts: one, he was so out of it when he came back that he went to bed without turning on the lights, and being fully clothed, so he didnt notice them. OR it happened in the three hours he was asleep and he slept through that which is also horrifying!

Erika shows up and talks about the wonderful magic circle. Arria went a few sentences, and then had to go back and reread it.
A: Im sorry. It took my brain a moment to parse that. Eva is going to murder this girl. Also, I read that wonderful magic circle in the same voice from Howls Moving Castle what a pretty fire.
Erika then gives a half-assed Im sorry your family was killed

Day 33 (10/19/2018)

We start on the 2nd day. The text says an alarm clock is going off, but theres no noise thankfully or else Arria would punch her screen.

A: Before the screen got a background, I was half expecting Battler to have been buried alive with his alarm clock. Like BEEP BEEP BEEP Why cant I turn this fucker off!?

Battler: This law of summer camp awakenings that I just made up.
A: *laughs* at least you admit you made it up.

Battler says he woke up at 7 in the morning
A: If memory serves, wasnt he up until 4?
K: Yeah, the parents kept him up late because he had to join them for family talk shenanigans
A: Congratulations! Youre the Head of the Family! You only get to sleep 3 hours a day

A: Battler just reminded me that I needed to amend a personal opinion of mine. Even an ugly man can become hot in a suit, right? Im changing that. It doesnt apply to politicians. Then youre so evil the ugliness seeps through. To be fair, Battler is, well just Battler at this point. Not necessarily attractive, but someone I want to beat with an encyclopedia. But his suit is attractive, albeit one with a questionable zipper.
K: I think it took me a while, especially back when all I had were Ryukishi's sprites, but I do think Battler is kinda hot. Although my favorite artwork of him, besides the one of him naked and on a leash, is some fanart I've seen of him without his coat. Underneath he's wearing a red shirt and black waistcoat. In other words, my favorite male outfit in my favorite colors.

This is my (Kira's) notes. Just me organizing my thoughts, as I did with Ep 1 and 2.

Ep 3:

Twilight 1: Easiest case scenario, Sayo killed Genji, Gohda, and Kumasawa and put their bodies in certain locations with keys to the next location. Of course, she has two master keys so she can go wherever. Even if all that business about the adults finding the servants bodies was true, then Sayo dressed as Shannon and pretended to be dead, waited for everyone to leave, and then went to the chapel dressed as Kanon and waited for everyone find Kanon was dead. Im not entirely convinced that even happened, however.

Twilight 2: Eva and Rosa both solved the riddle, but Eva got there first. Rosa wanted to split the money and Eva was like yeah nah go fuck yourself so they got into an argument. Or possibly Rosa was like yeah nah go fuck yourself and started the argument which ended in Eva acting in self-defense and accidentally killing her. Not sure how one can accidentally kill a little girl like Maria, so Im inclined to believe Eva DID have some evilness in her. Probably meant to shut her up so she wouldnt go back and be like uu uu Auntie Eva killed Mama! Uu! Eva left, then Sayo walked by intending to commit murder and found out it had already been done for her.

Twilight 4, 5, 6: Eva, Hideyoshi, Rudolf, and Kyrie went to the mansion. Eva and Hideyoshi went under the pretense of finding food but also intending to murder Rudolf and Kyrie. Meanwhile Rudolf and Kyrie went under the pretense of finding food and also intending to figure out what shenanigans Eva and Hideyoshi were up to (and also committing murder if necessary). Im not entirely sure who shot who and when, but in the end, Eva and Hideyoshi killed the other two, but Rudolf shot Hideyoshi. Eva escaped unscathed. Sayo then came by intending to murder, but found out her dirty work had already been done, so she planted the stakes in their bodies and continued on.

Twilight 7 and 8: Eva brewed poisoned coffee for Natsuhi and Krauss.

Then Sayo called up her best bud and accomplice Nanjo and told her to inform George that she was alive and waiting for him in the mansion. He went there and talked to her, and then she murdered him. Reasons include the usual i.e. she told him she was a mangled male and he couldnt handle it, or shed already given up on this game board and wanted to say her final farewells. Either way, she killed George. Its also possible that in the duel between Shannon and Kanon, Kanon won out in this one, hence why Sayo comes back as Kanon to save Jessica later.

That whole affair with Jessica going blind occurred the way we see it. Nanjo took her into the servants room or whatever it was. While there, Sayo came by an killed Nanjo. She then used her best Kanon voice to convince Jessica to hide because he thought Eva was still on a murder spree and he was afraid that Jessica would be next. He likely told her that she couldnt touch him because he was either in Shannons outfit or Beatrices dress and Jessica would ask him why the fuck hes wearing a dress/meido outfit.

Eva shot Battler because he was acting shady as fuck and accusing her of murdering everyone (I mean he was right). Then she ran to Kuwadorian where she was safe from the bomb.

Everyone knows this is how it happened:


Twilight 1: Sayo took all the Ushiromiya adults to the chapel and told them to accept her as the heir. She had a few gold bars laid out as proof. Rosa was already bribed and on board with the murder plan back when Sayo dressed as Beatrice gave Maria the letter. Sayo murders everyone in the chapel except Rosa. Hell, maybe Rosa helps out. She probably enjoyed murdering the siblings she hated so much. Sayo and Rosa leave without locking the door. All that shit later about the key and the door was just fluff so we could learn about the red truth. Although Rosa DID take the key out of Marias bag in the morning, either to confirm the key was inside, but probably also to look for the letter.

Twilight 2: Kanon went into Jessicas room by her own invitation. He had an internal Ep 6-style love duel whereby Shannon killed Kanon. Since the persona of Kanon died, his love for Jessica also died and he no longer needed her. He killed her, exited the room, and locked the door with the master key assigned to Shannon.

Twilight 4 and 5: The servants were hanging out in the kitchen. Sayo told Genji it was time for murder and they killed Nanjo and Kumasawa. I like to imagine Genji whipped out some killer ninja moves as seen, but in all likelihood he just walked up behind these two old people and slit their throats. Or maybe he did one and Sayo did the other. Then they told Gohda to stay quiet or hed be next. Sayo could have also told Gohda that he can be her personal chef and makes tons of money once she becomes the Head.

Twilight 6, 7, and 8: Sayo told everyone that they needed to go to Natsuhis room which is where she hid the rest of the guns. I like to believe this is where Sayo reveals what she is to George that she is a man whose genitals were mangled in the cliff incident. Try as she might to convince George that she loves him, he is unable to come to terms with it. To be fair, George is also dealing with the death of his parents so hes not in the best state of mind to learn his girlfriend (who he also just proposed to) is a male. Sayo and Genji kill Gohda and George with the guns and then plant a stake in each of them. Sayo tells Genji to go finish off the ceremony while she stays here. Distraught that she was rejected, Sayo then commits suicide with the ol gun-dumbbell-cabinet trick.

Twilight 9: Battler gets drunks and hallucinates. Genji tries to sober him up, but the bomb goes off before that happens. Rosa flees with Maria, thinking theyll be safe from the bomb if she gets to the ocean which she believes to be outside the blast radius. They die anyway.

Kiras collective thoughts/observations/interpretations:

Ep 1 was fairly straight-forward on re-read. Sayo had a goal in mind and went about it with minimal interruption. Various mysterious letters could have been placed by Kanon or Genji depending on the scene. Any shenanigans with keys (I don't think this episode had any) is resolved by knowing Sayo had a master key.

The part where Battler almost grabs Shannons boobs goes from being dumb fanservice on the first reading to holy shit you almost solved the entire game on the second reading. And Sayo herself goes from dumb submissive meido to tragic gender-confused person who just wants Battler to FUCKING FIGURE IT OUT ALREADY. This is another instance of Sayo resigning herself to fate. If Battler grabs her fake boobs and all is revealed, such is fate. If he did not, then fate says its time to murder.

Twilight 1 the five non-Shannon corpses are dead as they appear. There is no 6th corpse. Hideyoshi and Kanon are the only ones who see Shannons corpse. Of course, Kanon is Sayo and Hideyoshi was bribed to say whatever Sayo wanted him to say. Hideyoshi describing the wedding ring on Shannons finger is sad and touching the first time, but fucking weird the second time. You can practically feel Kanon staring at him and thinking dont fuck this up.

Twilight 2 Kanon entered Eva and Hideyoshis room because they let him in. I mean, he IS bribing them so maybe they were gonna discuss murders/money/whatever. He kills them. He then goes to Genji and tells him to ready the paint. While Genji is getting blood-red paint, Kanon gets the chain-cutter and cuts the chain to Eva/Hideyoshis room which was never set to begin with. Genji paints the magic circle.

Twilight 4 Kinzo was already dead and put into the boiler a while ago.

Twilight 5 Kanon runs away from the others and has an internal struggle with himself. He opens the back door and screams to get the attention of the others. He uses fake blood to trick the others into thinking he was attacked. The stake never pierces his body. While Battler runs outside looking for the assailant, Nanjo takes Kanon away to heal his wounds. In the next scene, we are told through narration that Nanjo couldnt save Kanon, however we (and Battler) never see Kanon. In truth, he was never hurt and he is now running around the mansion unsupervised.

Twilights 6, 7, 8 Kanon killed Kumasawa, Genji, and Nanjo. He was very likely dressed as Beatrice here because he was able to convince Maria that he was Beatrice. He told her to stand against the wall and keep singing. Then he dialed the phone to the room Natsuhi was in and let the phone hang there.

Twilight 9 Kanon (probably still dressed as Beatrice) dueled Natsuhi. He had a gun and shot her. Then the bomb went off and everyone died.
