Nine-year-old boy. The only child of working-class parents living in the undercity slums. Orphaned two years ago when his parents were killed in an industrial accident. Since then, he's lived on the streets as a thief, aided by his growing psychic powers. And possibly also minor reality warping. These powers are really cool and will be even cooler when I write them sometime within the next week. I'm thinking some kind of mental manipulation. Developed in ways that make sense for a kid thief. He's not aware of his full potential, and may not even be entirely aware of his powers as he uses them right now (like, there are soldiers searching for him, he hopes that they don't find his hiding place, they leave the area without checking it out -- does he realize that he mentally manipulated them, or does he just think that he got lucky?)

Physically, he's a tad short, medium build. He's highly agile, hardy, and strong for a nine-year-old. But, y'know, nine-year-old. No formal education, probably illiterate, but he's keenly observant -- possibly with senses enhanced by his cool powers that I haven't written yet -- and street-smart.

Same here. I've never cared that much about contests in and of themselves, but it's fun when everyone is hyped, which is less of a thing recently.

Spamlock with freeze is perfectly reasonable, particularly since your guy was surrounded by several enemies -- you're assuming perfect dodging on his part, which is arguable but by no means certain.

I need to re-upload my first two journals. My 110MB site got randomly suspended (I'm still not sure why) and I never bothered hosting those journals elsewhere.

that match actually disproves your point - I was trying to convince several people that I would win, but none of them except Twilight would buy it

even though it was a 1 vs. 5 match and one of the 5 had an easily spammable immobilization spell. what a robbery.

Mercs 3 ended last fall. It was pretty long and drawn-out, so we decided that it'd do the project good if we all took a break for a while. Currently, we've started work on m4, but somewhat lazily. We've decided that we want to have releases planned up-front (since a big problem in m3 was long gaps during results), which is going to take some time.

charon's concern was, if you include cyborgs, where do you draw the line? A dude with just a robot arm (see: Barret) isn't really robot-y enough to enter a robot contest. What about a character with a robot arm and leg? What about a character with a robot arm, leg, and eye? (I can think of examples of both of those I'd like to nom.)

Personally I'd still like to see cyborgs in the contest, even with these concerns -- I think it's possible to make a fair dividing line, and it would make for a lot stronger and more interesting field.

But AIs are allowed regardless, which is more important imho.
