If you're playing just for fun...why? There are tons of similar games that you could play for fun, make progress in, and aren't designed to fuck you.

Strongly disagree. The combat is one of the few redeeming qualities of the Kotor games. As you said yourself, the writing is awful.

Yeah Duolingo is a good start. Watch movies and TV in German with English subtitles. Read books in German. Watch MarmeladenOma on Twitch and YouTube (German granny that reads storybooks) mostly because she is a treasure, but also because it helps with the learning.

And honestly German grammar is easy as fuck. If you speak English you're already like 50% of the way there, the languages are extremely similar.
