| Delirious_Beard 05/21/20 1:55:36 AM #22 | i main kirby in every game except melee, not necessarily out of loyalty (i do love kirby games and that may be what drew me to him initially tho) but because for some reason i just really like playing him. his moveset is mostly always the same (rip Brawl hammer) but he plays kind of different in each game (Brawl has you spend most of your time in the air spacing aerials while in Ultimate Kirby's more of a boxing character who prefers to stay grounded) other than him i tend to pick up a few new characters specific to that game (marth in melee, lucas in brawl, zelda in smash 4) just cuz i like that specific iteration of them or the game's engine really suits them. zelda in smash 4 for example has a lot more tools to deal with opponents up close than she does in any prior game, she's still really bad but i had fun with her. in ultimate she's a much better character but this is largely thanks to her camping and keepaway tools being buffed, which i don't really enjoy all that much (plus i actually prefer the TP design over her new one which i didn't expect) --- https://imgur.com/HUHxlFl You act like I don't know my own way home |

Mediocre by DQ standards honestly this part of this is entirely subjective however. i do not like the removal of actual "turn" based combat in favor of choosing each action individually when its their turn in the order. i miss making decisions at once and watching it play out. the new system basically never lets you breathe because the battle is always in the middle of a turn. admittedly it has its obvious benefits, previous games often had you better off setting your healers to AI controlled because they had the ability to react and heal in the midst of a turn playing out. that's not an issue in XI, but i still prefer the more proactive system to the reactive one, and i really wish they at least had the option to switch between the two. (2D mode does have the old system, but i really had no interest in playing the whole game in that mode) my biggest problem is the world design tho. it's basically a series of small scale, segmented areas that feel incredibly video-game-y. there's tons of artificial and arbitrary boundaries, where previous games mostly used natural terrain like mountains to convey its accessible areas. the towns are still great tho --- https://imgur.com/HUHxlFl You act like I don't know my own way home |
