How did she try and 'use' him? They went on what sounds like a date if she expected him to pay.

The original post stated that the girl wanted to go out as friends, not as a date. She then seemed to expect the guy to pay for her meal as if they were on a date. Sounds like she was trying to use the guy, to me.

How hard is it to leave your damn religion at home and not bring it into the workplace where it could affect people?

Very hard considering the fact that many people who subscribe to specific religions are taught to let those beliefs permeate every aspect of their lives.

Hard also when it's your own damn business, not some "workplace" owned by someone else

This is a really important point as well. If the bakery is owned by say Wal-Mart and a specific baker chooses to not make someone a cake for two men or two women who were getting married, they would likely be violating Wal-Mart policy and there should be repercussions as per said policy.

It would be hurtful for them to do so, but I think Christian bakers should be free to serve who they wish. If they choose not to make a cake for an institution they disagree with, then that's their choice. Gay couples are free to get cakes from many other establishments. Why would you fight and beg for someone who disagrees with you to take your hard earned money?? If they refuse you then spend money with someone who you feel would respect your wishes

This argument is a shit show on both sides. People don't realize that this is a completely contextual argument. Christian bakers are not discriminating againts gay people. They are simple refusing to participate in an institution that is against their beliefs (which is the MARRIAGE of gay people). Simply being gay and getting married are not the same, so stop acting like it is. Being Gay is not a choice, but choosing to get married is. The church is against that and should not be forced to do something which they view as sinful. To them, they'll have to answer to their creator for that. Who is more important? The creator of the universe or some Senator or butt hurt gamefaqs user??

And for those who equate this to the struggle of blacks in this country. Stop it. It is extremely disrespectful and inaccurate. Tell me how Gays were enslaved for 300 years and then treated like sub humans for the rest of their history in this country? Tell me how they were forced to use separate bathrooms and even go to different (and less equipped) schools. Tell me how they didn't have the right to vote.

White supremacists love acknowledge the struggles that blacks have had in this country when it convenient for them. But you same ones trying to equate it to the civil rights movement will be the same ones defending a police shooting or talking that 'racism is over' bullshit.

Gosh Dammit

I agree with this completely. All of it

A business with its doors open to the public is not allowed to discriminate, period. If they dont want to serve a gay couple because they are gay, or a black person because they are black, they can close their business. This is the only correct answer.

You can discriminate about tons of things though.

If you would say that they are allowed to refuse to make a cake with a KKK on it then presumably they'd also be allowed to refuse to make a cake with say 2 grooms on it.

The KKK is a hate group, gay people as a general rule are not.

That goal post just keeps moving, huh?

Should Mormon bakeries be allowed to refuse to make a cake for an interracial marriage?

What does this have to do with the topic title

It's efrectively the same situation, and has the same answer.

I'm black and if I were turned away because of my marriage being interracial, I'd go find a bakery that Would work with me. They're losing the business and I'm going to work with someone who won't half ass things because they were forced to work with me.

This whole thing about forcing people to cater to eachother's feelings is getting really old,

Wouldn't letting businesses discriminate based on feelings just be catering to a different set of feelings?

Beliefs =/= feelings

They can be related but they are not necessarily synonymous.

Why would a gay couple even come to Christian bakery?
Obvious provocation.

A couple of thoughts:

1. How obvious was it that it was a Christian bakery (whatever that is)?
2. Gay people can be Christians, you know?

If they are really Christian then they should know how the bible feels about their relations

Therefore, why make a mockery of that by getting married?

That is simply your viewpoint of Christianity. There are MANY sects and denominations that have no problem with gay people or marriage equality.

The Christian Bible is very clear on what is considered "sexual immorality." To disregard The Bible is to not be Christian.

Divorce

When my wife finally said she wanted a divorce, I simply responded "ok" because I knew it was coming. I then waited for her to file papers so that I'd be the one who got served but she never would. She demanded I move out of the house before she filed. I have no idea why that was her requirement, so I filed instead. I also cut off her access to my paycheck and didn't give her any money at all. She had a part time job that could cover her own stuff.

She kept demanding that I move out and I told her I wouldn't until she agreed in writing to 50/50 parenting time with the kids. She wouldn't agree. She wanted $1000 a month temporarily and to have a 60/40 split on parenting time. I ended up living in the house with her for almost six months until we ended up in court. When we left court, I left with 50/50 parenting time and only had to pay her $800 a month. She isn't very smart.

The divorce dragged on for another few months all while she was running around town messing with several different guys. The main guy was on probation and worked at a second-hand store. She loved telling all her friends about her escapades and her friends husbands would sometimes tell me.

The divorce finally ended when we made an offer that her lawyer couldn't ignore without risking that he might not get paid. She tried to keep fighting but eventually agreed when her lawyer threatened to quit on her. Her lawyer was willing to walk away without getting paid because of her insanity.

In the end, I'm paying her 25% of my salary over the next eight years. It could have been worse, because we were married long enough that I could have been on the hook for lifetime alimony. In addition, I had to pay my lawyer, her lawyer, 50% of all my retirement funds and give her another few thousand dollars to make her go away. It cost me $20 to get married and will cost me over $220,000 to get divorced. I got the only thing I truly wanted which was 50/50 parenting time with our kids.

Lessons Learned

Don't live life how others think you should

You come first in your own life and everyone else will be better for it

Don't forgo your own happiness for the happiness of others

Don't get married young. In fact, don't get married

Marriage has almost no benefit to the person with the higher income

Deal with your own problems NOW!

AWALT

What she says is irrelevant, only her actions matter

Be diligent, gaslighting is real. You naturally want to believe everything told to you by someone who loves you

If you're headed for divorce, you have to be two steps ahead of her to be able to get a fair deal. The courts are still far more favorable to women.

I hope this helps some of you see what happens if you are Beta Bucks. Don't let this happen to you. Let me know if you have any other questions I can answer.

that's what you get for being an idiot and marrying, having kids with a girl that is crazy. Next time find a more normal girl.

Yeah, honestly you didn't seem to do your due diligence in the "dating" and "getting to know you" phases and you paid for it.

I don't think so. You went pretty hard with insults and a lengthy paragraph because she was irritated with you for seemingly disregarding something that she told you about, before. Your reaction seemed really self-centered and not proportional to the situation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it generally seen as a feminine quality to be more sensitive or emotional? It seems like it would be an uphill battle for someone whom can't stand sensitivity to relate to them.
