People underrate Trump's political awareness just because he's stupid in most other regards. He was able to build a cult for a reason, and his previous choice of running mate was far more strategic than he's given credit for.

The idea behind picking Noem before was that she was a Trump loyalist with the public image of being a somewhat reasonable conservative. Unfortunately for Trump she killed that perception in order to sell a book, but he obviously notices how far her stock has dropped.

Israel is not, and should not be, interested in a long-term peace deal with Hamas. The best they were willing to do was a Ramadan truce in exchange for hostages.

The war will end when Hamas is no longer in power in Gaza, whether that happens through fighting to the last man, or surrender. Only when Gaza is ruled by a PA-UN joint venture with international peacekeepers can the rebuilding truly begin. The sooner that happens, the better for the survivors within Gaza's borders.
