TopicWhy do console gamers still prefer physical media?
DarkMinun

-it offers more retail options. Most of the physical games I have are because it was cheaper somewhere other than the Xbox Store.

-it offers the option to buy and sell used games

-it offers the option to play unpatched

-if/when the associated online stores close down you still have your games

-there are still people out there without modern high-speed internet, or running tight data caps.

Most of the brownies I've had have been somewhat disappointing. I also need to make sure they're not spiked with walnuts due to an allergy.

Cupcakes are cake, but smaller. They can be any kind of cake. The mass-manufactured ones in the plastic clamshell at the grocery store suck, but good ones are excellent.

The US has legislated that 50% of new vehicles sold in 2030 must be EVs. Canada has legislated that 100% of new vehicles sold in 2035 must be EVs.

The only way this won't happen is if a regressive conservative government gets elected in either country, but even then, auto manufacturers are already preparing for this and likely will mostly follow through even if the legislative requirements are lifted.

My fear is that the mix of technology improvements and charging infrastructure in rural and northern Canada won't be adequate for everyone to be served by EVs by 2035.

They all lose 40-60% of their range in extreme cold, which is multiple months/year here, and we still have communities served by temporary ice roads with no intention of ever building roads to them. I can't carry extra charge in a jerry can when a battery car won't go far enough.

In this situation, the choices would be to make exceptions to the ban, lift it entirely, or leave people without their only modern form of transportation.

My sister doesn't care about anyone but herself, our mom bought her 2 different cars that she was supposed to pay her back for and ran both of them into the ground without paying for them. Recently she moved back in and got a job 45 minutes away, since she ran the car into the ground she either needs a ride there and back or just take my mom's car for the day and she's not even making good money. She could have gotten a job 5 minutes away for the same pay, or even more but decided she'd rather be a huge burden on all of us just so she can have a job she likes. Am I wrong for being angry about this? It pisses me off that she didn't take the burden she puts on the rest of us into consideration when getting a job.

How do you deal with people like this?

I tell them to take the bus. Your lack of wheels or poor planning is not my problem.

Many hiring types will accomodate if you request an interview or other hiring-related thing outside of normal work hours. They understand that you have a job and want to hire the kind of person who shows up to work reliably.

If that doesn't work, request a day off in advance. If for some reason you can't do that, call in sick the day of.

KingDavid posted...
What's irresponsible is going out to eat when you know you have a deadly allergy, or if your child has a deadly allergy.

And it's borderline criminal that people would put someone's life in someone else's hand.

It's like going to someone for support for suicide, or threatening to commit suicide unless someone does something.

It's selfish.

You are literally putting you/or someone else's life in the hands of the staff and management. I would not want to be held liable for the company or your life.

If I was an owner or manager of an establishment, I would tell people with deadly allergies to go somewhere else, because I DO NOT want to be responsible for someone else's life. Fuck that!

You would also have to not put antifreeze or anthrax in their food, and take care to keep the rat poison (that all food service establishments are required to have) out of the food.

This is why restaurants are generally run by people who give a fuck about the wellbeing of others, and are not run by you.

Any restaurant that regularly cross-contaminates ingredients badly enough to make anyone but the .0001% of most serious allergies sick has such terrible quality control and sanitation practices that I wouldn't want to eat there anyway.

You can't run a restaurant kitchen like a kitchen at home where something falls and gets a bit of dirt on it but you throw it back in the pan anyway because you know you're not personally going to die from that particular bit of dirt.
