The Mean Six just felt like a rehash of "Ponies of Dark Water" or an actualization of what the Anti-Six was like from "There is More than One of Everything." They were even close to just being like the Discorded ponies back in Season 2. Chrysalis felt somewhat threatening, but even for an episode all about miscommunication, it felt like it meandered a whole lot. This...not yet. Maybe next year. God damn shame because I really want a switch, just want the motivation to get it. Golf Story, Mario Odyssey, and Mario Tennis aren't enough. I mean, the new Gen is coming out in 2019. This is just a fun little side step to the series with a Kanto coat of paint. But yeah, I still have PoGo loaded on my phone but I haven't touched it and I... really... don't want to go back. Raids don't interest me, the missions sound nice but also sort of infuriating, and oh lord, the shinies. --- |

There were some great points towards Spike's molting, more RariSpike interactions are always good, Zecora being around was also really good and having Smoulder sort of show the ropes to Spike was a welcome example of why all these creatures are here in Ponyville in the first place. But still, it was just a coming-of-age episode. Dragon puberty in the most obvious form. And even despite great ascension episodes like "Magical Mystery Cure" or "Crusaders of the Lost Mark," this episode didn't really make me feel anything. Even with Spike being my favorite creature on the show, it just felt like "oh, Spike finally grew up." (Arguably, this was one of the spoilers that I really couldn't avoid for this season...) The lack of a song may be to blame, but it wouldn't really have fit with Spike's story. I don't really there was a good way to address this scenario, but what can you do? Fake It 'Til You Make It > The Break Up Break Down > Horse Play > Molt Down > The Maud Couple > Surf And/Or Turf > The Parent Map > School Daze, Pt. 2 > School Daze, Pt. 1 > Non-Compete Clause > Grannies Gone Wild Still, non-committal recognition of Spike's crush on Rarity. The gags with Discord, Spike taking the lead, the drama and romance between Big Mac and Sugar Belle, the side-plot with the CMC. Oh, everything was just right on point for good, quality Pony!
