tl;dr

The school has a bulletin board and an online Google drive regarding scholarships, so some of the blame on not knowing about them falls on her.

The poster is also a guidance counselor and thus has some idea of what goes on in the job. This school has 2500 students and seven counselors. The school is mostly made up of poorer students (75% on free/reduced lunch program) and its proximity to the border means it has a lot of migrant learners and English language learners. To quote this one directly:

All of this means San Ysidro is a Title 1 school. Counselors in Title 1 schools well over the ASCA recommended ratios are doing things every day that arent seen by other students. Things like counseling suicidal students, counseling homicidal students to keep the school safe, addressing bullying/harassment issues, working with social services to help these poor students and/or families, working with migrant education laws, etc

But the cherry on the sundae: the "personal issues" this girl was talking about? The ones that shouldn't affect people doing their job? A year ago, that guidance counselor's seventeen-year-old daughter was killed in a hit-and-run (only one month after her own graduation).

So today I went to Gamestop because Best Buy had absolutely nobody there to help me get Days Gone.

So I go into Gamestop, and it was actually a pleasent experience. Guy just asked what I needed, told him Days Gone. He grabbed it, told me my card expired months ago, but didn't even ask if I wanted to renew it. Then, he gave me some actual tips for the game before I left.

I still hate Gamestop, but now it's because I got an actually cool employee and I feel bad cause he might be out of a job in a few months to a year
