Why would you trash your apartment when you will just have to clean it later?
You're better off killing things in a video game.

I'm not doing shit later.

If you feel like cleaning why don't you just clean your apartment when you get mad then?

What makes you think I feel like cleaning? Trust me, I'm not cleaning up anything.

Are you going to be okay?

The anxiety might be escalating your perceived pain. Do you have anxiety meds? Do you see a therapist?

It's so sad that our kids in school have to grow up with this President. They get two different messages: study, be nice, stay out of trouble, mind what you say to people, etc. Then you got Trump doing the exact opposite on a daily basis. A President is supposed to be a model for kids, not the antithetical model. How can you tells your kids to do right while Trump is perpetually rewarded for deplorable behavior? Used to tell your kids that the President deserves respect and someone you could look up to. Not no mo.

http://www.cnn.com/2018/01/12/politics/donald-trump-tweet-daca-rejection/index.html

Yeah, can't you guys tell the difference between "tough language" vs. vulgar, demeaning, racist hate speech? Geesh.

"President Donald Trump on Friday denied describing certain nations as "shithole countries" during a meeting in which he rejected a bipartisan deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!" Trump tweeted.
White House spokesperson Raj Shah did not deny the "shithole" remark on Thursday evening, but instead said in a statement that Trump "is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation."

DACA protects hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation.

Trump on Thursday rejected a pitch from a bipartisan team of senators on a compromise immigration deal to protect DACA participants while increasing border security.

"Why do we want all these people from 'shithole countries' coming here?" Trump told senators in the Oval Office, according to a source briefed on the meeting.
The Washington Post first reported on Trump's comments.

Trump's denial came among a series of other tweets in which he defended his immigration stance.
"The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and USA would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime.....," Trump tweeted. He continued: "....countries which are doing badly. I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level. I want safety and security for our people. I want to stop the massive inflow of drugs. I want to fund our military, not do a Dem defund....

"....Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards. The Dems will threaten 'shutdown,' but what they are really doing is shutting down our military, at a time we need it most. Get smart, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

He also said: "Sadly, Democrats want to stop paying our troops and government workers in order to give a sweetheart deal, not a fair deal, for DACA. Take care of our Military, and our Country, FIRST!"
The tweets suggest that Trump is interested in a system that would only accept individuals from certain countries and backgrounds in exchange for a DACA deal -- as well as a much more substantial border investment than one year of funding and technology upgrades the lawmakers had presented.

Democrats have made clear they would not consider some of the suggestions and the demands risk exacerbating already tense talks as both sides are entrenched in negotiating position.

While some Republicans hope to gain leverage by dragging out negotiations and increase the risk that DACA recipients could lose status and even be deported, advocates have made clear to Democrats they should feel empowered to reject a deal that benefits DACA immigrants at the expense of scores of others and their families.

In the Mind Field episode where they actually run this experiment, 5 out of 7 didn't switch it. Each have various answers and justifications for it but you could tell they froze in the moment.

One of the two who did choose the many over the few ended up in tears in the interview after.

We aren't always the way we want to be when the heat is on.

Yeah, it really just stems to what I said earlier. It's an intense situation that you can't really fault someone for doing during the heat of the moment.

There's a few people here who don't get that perspective though.

There was another study too, and the results were marginally in favor with pulling the switch...until they changed the scenario just a little to say what if the lone person on the other track were someone you loved, parent, friend, child, family member, etc. Suddenly half of the ones who said yes were very eager to change their answer. Suddenly quantity didn't matter anymore. You're right, we ain't always who we think we are especially in tense situations.

It leads to more loss than taking action.

Taking action means you actively, purposefully kill someone when the train was already bound to it's fate.

Well there you switched the scenario to involve first responders who have an obligation in said scenario. So it's not exactly the same thing as a regular citizen coming upon the original scenario. and I take your point about the other five families, it wouldn't be easy, but if you tell the truth, that's all you can do. You can illustrate your point of view. You could ask what if one of their family members was the single one on the track. There ain't no easy way to put it, but if you walk on by, you don't have to explain anything to anybody, because what happened is an out of control train was let loose and killed five people. Insert yourself into it, then you got some explaining to do. I doubt anyone will ask you why didn't you switch tracks and just kill that one person.

Ok, replace the scenario with some average joe fighting against a corrupt dictator government then. In a moral situation like this, it's less about the character involved but the actual principle.
And if you can do that to the 5 families I don't see how you can't say that to the one family that you were just trying to save as much people as possible? Or ask them what if one of their family members were one of the 5 people on the track (which is statistically more likely)
At the end of the day, the only aspect that "dirtying your hands" does only applies to you. And I think it's more moral to sacrifice your own sleepless nights to save more people.

Well I do concede that we understand the same values here, what's at stake, what makes more sense. even I say it makes more sense to pull the switch and save the five, but I can't get over my hand pulling the trigger on one, especially in a situation I didn't create and mostly don't know about (like why they're like that on the tracks in the first place). And hell, when I'm sitting alone just thinking about it all nice and cozy at home, I admit it's easier to say I'd leave it alone. But I admit, if it were real, Heaven knows what I would do. The mind says one thing, the heart says another. And as far as dirtying hands, I mean, that's a real thing you would have to live with. You will be responsible for that person's death. Maybe you might not even be able to live with the guilt.

Yes, like I've said, I don't fault anyone for choosing to not pull the switch. I just think it's less moral but it's an understandable action to take. Sacrificing yourself to save someone else is also more moral but it's perfectly understandable (and expected) for people to prefer not dying.

Good talk. Thank you.

I think the same applies here. The family of those 5 people could press charges and we could still be arrested.

They can't press charges if you didn't have a duty to act. Besides, they'd have to prove you knew what to do. That would be a big uphill battle for them.

You did have a duty to act, you could've saved those 5 people but you didn't choose to. It was a conscious that could be used against you in court.

You don't have to intervene in something that ain't your business. This isn't a hard concept to understand. No one will be looking for you to explain either way. As a private citizen, you do not have a duty to act. You may think it's shitty of someone not to, but as a private citizen, you can walk on by. No one can even prove you knew what was happening or what to do. Besides, you're not the first person they're going to look at. The railroad will have some explaining to do first.

The track with 1 person on it has a better chance of becoming 100% clear of people than the track with 5 people on it (everything else equal), simply due to the numbers. I would constantly be holding out hope that everyone will escape without getting hit, and obviously the track with just 1 person on it has a better chance of that occurring.

Interesting perspective.
